There are many reasons why we make the transition from Windows to Mac, and one of them is for increased security. It is very rare that those of you with Mac OS X will suffer from spyware, as Windows users do – so comes as a shock that the Apple operating system has come under attack from a trojan horse.
Do not think that Windows users are safe, the virus affects them as well. The trojan is affecting social networking sites and is disguised as a video called “Is this you in this video?” Just make certain that you do not click on the link, as a Java aplet will then launch and then download and install a number of files.
There is a fear that once the malware launches it will be able to crack any user accounts and then work as other spam attacks do, by sharing itself with others. Ars Technica learned from SecureMac that it is not known if or what the differences were with the Mac and Windows version of this torjan was.
There is an easy solution to all this – no not social networking sites increasing security – do not click any links like this at all. For those of you who have already been affected by trojan.osx.boonana.a, then get a free removal tool here.
