2011 Honda Odyssey Verdict – Ugly

A lot is riding on the success of the 2011 Honda Odyssey, as the Japanese automaker hopes to be able to bring something new to the minivan segment. However, we have to warn you that you might throw up when you look at it, the vehicle is just too ugly to look at.

The sad fact is, if the car were designed a little better then Honda could have been on to a good thing, as the new Odyssey drives smoothly and most importantly, quiet. James R. Healey from USA Today has been driving the 2011 Honda Odyssey about for a while now, and has given his honest review.

So we know that he is not a fan of how the minivan looks, but he does make a point of how fuel-efficient it is compared to the main competition. Even though the styling is not that great, when placed next to the old model it takes on a whole new perspective.

Prices will start from $28,000, that’s $3,000 more than the Sienna base-model. However, the former comes with a V6, whereas the latter only has a V4 engine. The Sienna does have an ace up its sleeve though, and that is with all-wheel drive (AWD) – making it a perfect family vehicle.

You have to weigh up if you are able to get over the ugly looks and the fact that there are cheaper minivans on the market, only you can make that choice.

WOW! A V4! Toyota must be using Yamaha (or possibly Honda) motorcycle engines… and they still can't beat the mpg of the Odyssey. AWD is only available with a V6 and runs 35K which is 7K more than the former… huh…

OMG… so SO ugly. Ugly doesn't even describe it. I was waiting to replace my old Odyssey with the new one. I am SO disappointed. I know it's shallow… but I just can't spend this much money on such an ugly vehicle. So, hello Toyota. I am a 20 year Honda owner but this minivan is just SO disappointing. Call me shallow, but no way I can look at that zig zag for five-10 years.

The 2007 we currenlty have is the third Odyssey we have owned. Not yet ready to buy another, but if I were, it would be a 2010 close out. The 2011 just looks strange. It looks like they put two different cars together and guess what, it doesn't work. Honda will have to try again before we get another one. Looks like Toyota might get our business next time.

Based on current designs and poor sales, Honda and Acura's North American design team seriously should be fired. The designs that Honda and Acura have been bringing to market over the past few years have been absolutely hideous. Take a look at the Medusa-like Crosstour or even the Accord that has been getting uglier with each subsequent iteration. Now it's culminated with the absolutely disgusting looking Odyssey with its lightning bolt-esque design integrated into the side of the vehicle.

Hondas look simply terrible and they should've learned a thing or two when they released the ugly Ridgeline which was just a larger copy of the Subaru Baja truck that also didn't work. Honda are you listening? Time to get a new design team.

I am in the market for a minivan and was waiting for the 2011 Honda Odyssey. I've seen them in person and they are even uglier than the pictures online. The van is also lower to the group and feels more narrow on the interior. I'm afraid the new Odyssey is a real PIG. I will not be purchasing one.
