Advent Vega Tablet PC: Specs Include Android OS 2.2

By Updated on

We have recently spoken about alternative tablets to the iPad, like the Samsung Galaxy Tab and BlackBerry PlayBook. A report by Tim Stevens over at engadget.com provides us with some details on the new Advent Vega Tablet PC.

This device is said to run the Android 2.2 operating system, and will be powered by an NVIDIA Tegra 1GHz processor. When out and about, you can use 3G via its integrated SIM slot or use the Wi-Fi that allows connectivity to Hot Spots or your wireless network at home.

A capacitive touch screen is offered measuring 10-inches with an integrated 1.3MP webcam, as well as other features including a HDMI port, 512MB of RAM and an internal storage space of 512MB, but can be expanded by the microSD card slot.

According to Engadget, Dixons UK will be stocking this Advent Vega device, as from 18th October for £249. Do you reckon you will get this new Tablet PC?

If it has Flash Support and Android Market Place yes, oh – and if it Kindle works on it – big yes!!

I had almost decided to purchase the Advent Vega Tablet when it becomes available in November, until I discovered through this article that it only comes with 512MB of storage! This has got to be a misprint as the cheaper 10″ tablets (costing around £100) have at least 2GB!!! If this is an error, I hope that Dixons will make it clear as to the exact specifications of this device before the release of the Archos 101 Internet Tablet (Android) PC which is 10.1″, 12mm thin, 16GB storage and has just about all the features of the AV for £299. My search continues.

Easy to be mislead on memory comparison. The Vega has 512Mb internal RAM and from what I have read comes with a 4Gb memory card for storage. Comparing this 512Mb RAM with Archos 16Gb storage is not going to help you. The more internal RAM you have the more space apps have to run in. The more storage then the more files you can put on it.

on 2.2 you can put your apps on the sd card

It's reported that it comes with a 4GB flash card in the micro-SD slot.

Where is it? More vapor-ware? Where is it? It's now the 19th, and it's not in stores…

I phoned Currys HQ yesterday to see if they could advise me if my local store has the AV in stock. The lady didn't know of it and it wasn't showing on her stock lists. She left me on hold to check further and came back to say that no-one there had heard of it. On none of the websites of Dixons, Currys, or PC World does it show on search results.
      Hmm.
Most sites report that it was to be in the shops on the 18th Oct but some state 1st Nov.

I just found the official Dixons press release, http://www.dsgiplc.com/layout.aspx?ID=f604aaf4-e4… which states that it will be available from 1st Nov.
