John Lennon Google Doodle: Watch The Video

By Posted 8 Oct 2010, 12:24

Today marks the 30th anniversary of the death Tomorrow would have been the 70th birthday of John Lennon – one of the greatest singer-songwriters that ever lived. The ex-Beatles band member was just 40 when he died. The Google Doodle today has to be one of the best yet, and features a video along with the song “Imagine”, which you can see below.

Normally when you click on the Doodle you are then taken to a search results page of the event, this time when you click the logo a video starts. The animation is simple, but is made all the more powerful with the words of the John Lennon song.

This is not the first interactive Google Doodle; back on September 7th we had all those dots. To some it was annoying, but I thought that it made a refreshing change.

However, the best has to be the Pacman Doodle; this was actually a playable game on the Google homepage to celebrate our little friend’s 30th anniversary.

What do you think of today’s Google Doodle?

Today (8th October) is neither John Lennon's 70th birthday (tomorrow), nor the 40th anniversary of his death (8th December). Close but not cigar from Google.

Actually, Google knows it's on the 9th. We simply decided to release this doodle a day early so that our users could enjoy it longer. In fact, there have been tributes pouring in all week for Lennon – so if anything, we're a little late to the party. :)

I had the great honor of creating this animation. I hope folks enjoy it and focus on the occasion rather than exactly when we decided to start celebrating! (But just to avoid confusion, our blog post and tweets will indicate that we know his birthday is on Saturday…. we do our homework after all).

No Lennon was born on the 9th Of October John. You should do some research on how the Number 9 affected his life, It's Also his Son, Sean Lennon's birthday as well. They share the same day.
