We told you a few days ago about Droid 2 R2D2 dummy units arriving in Verizon stores in readiness for the device itself being available. Now we have a release date and pricing details for you.
Chris Ziegler of Engadget is reporting the handset will set you back an initial $349, but you will receive $100 of that back via a mail-in rebate when you sign up for two years. A Star Wars themed dock and a custom designed box which looks like carbonite accompanies the device.
Custom live wallpapers, sounds, photos, widgets are also part of the deal, and an exclusive Binoculars app which is believed to be some sort of digital zoom is also included. So far there has been no news on the rumored 1.2GHz processor powering the device.
The Droid 2 R2D2 will be available from Sept 30 in select Verizon Wireless Communication stores, and online at www.verizonwireless.com.
