If you are experiencing problems setting up your Linksys router we have some useful information for you which may help you get started, especially if you need to know the default IP address, username and password.
To log into and configure your router there are a few things you must do, firstly power on the router and connect it to your computer via an Ethernet cable, usually a Windows-based PC will acknowledge some sort of connection in the notification area by the clock, you must then log into your router.
To log into your router you need the router’s IP address, username and password, as standard most Linksys routers have an IP address of 192.168.1.1, the default username is admin and the default password is admin. However sometimes the IP address is 192.168.2.1 the username is blank and the password is admin.
To log into your router firstly open your web browser, then type http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar and press enter, you should now be prompted with a screen asking for the username and password, use the login details we spoke about in the previous paragraph. If you do not get prompted with a screen asking you to log in perhaps try navigating to http://192.168.2.1.
If you cannot connect to either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1 you may perhaps need to set your computer to automatically obtain an IP address, you can see some instructions on how to do this here.
If the router has been set with an alternative IP address at a previous date you may have to reset the router back to factory settings, usually there is a tiny button on the router which you must press for a few seconds, once reset you should be able to log into either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1.
Once logged in you can configure your router just how you want it, because of the thousands of different models and all of the different features it is impossible to write up full instructions for you, this guide should help you get connected, however I would recommend checking out the user manual for your particular model.
