We reported to you last week that Facebook were working on a cell phone. This was strongly denied by Facebook later that day. But the rumors will not go away with talk today that they are working with cell phone maker INQ Mobile Ltd.
Sakthi Prasad of Reuters is reporting that according to Bloomberg Facebook are working to create two smartphone devices, and could have a tie up with AT&T. The devices would have Facebook’s services and are alleged to be released in Europe during the first half of 2011, and in the US in the second half of 2011.
A spokesman for Facebook Jamie Schopfin had previously said they were not working on its own phone, but said the company had ongoing projects which had “deeper integrations with some manufacturers.”
It is said that no deal has been made with AT&T, who are currently deciding if they want to be the network carrier for the Facebook smartphone. Facebook would not comment on specific phones, but said it continues to work with INQ Mobile. The other companies mentioned could not be reached for comment.
We will probably here some more on this story today, whether it is again denied or otherwise. Do you think we will see a Facebook branded cellphone?
