Today the Google Android 2.2 FroYo update was launched for the recently released Motorola Droid X, however some Droid X owners reported that they could not install the update thanks to an error which read “update failed”.
It must be said that on the whole most Droid X’s updated without issues, however if you are one of the few experience the “update failed” error message we have a fix for you.
Apparently to resolve this you must return your device to as close to stock Android 2.1 Eclair as possible, which means restoring apps which you have removed/renamed, apps include Amazon MP3, Blockbuster and CityID
If you rooted your Droid X you may have renamed the APK file to BAK as a backup, therefore restoring this backup should resolve your problems, if you did not back up the APK file it can be downloaded here, you must extract the APK file into the Droid X’s System\app directory, you can use root explorer to do this.
If all else fails you must restore your Droid X to factory settings, you can do this by following these instructions, however you should be aware that personal data may be lost, so back it up beforehand.
I hope that these instructions helped you install the update on your Droid X, if not let us know what is going wrong in the comments section below and we will try to help.
