Shuhei Yoshida: Xbox 360 Kinect Helped PS3 Move

Since PlayStation Move was announced at E3 2009 it has always been compared to Microsoft Kinect, PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida has recently revealed that these device comparisons have resulted in a lot of extra coverage for Sony’s motion controller.

What Yoshida is basically saying is that Microsoft has inadvertently built up the hype for PlayStation Move, here is an extract of what he had to say to GamesIndusty.biz “In a broader sense, we are categorised as ‘motion gaming’ – if we were just doing Move, we wouldn’t have had as much coverage and attention from media and consumers”.

I have always said that competition in a particular market is great for everyone, it results in a better end product for consumers and also makes developers/manufacturers work harder to find a niche, this is very evident if you compare Kinect for Xbox 360 and PlayStation Move.

Now that Sony has released PlayStation Move they seem very keen to promote its price and functionality, we have embedded an image below which Sony recently released, what do you make of the comparison chart?

The same thing happened with Final Fantasy XIII.
Microsoft put the million$ on it in advertising but it sold more on the PS3 here in the west.
Never saw an ad for it by Sony yet it sold 2:1 in favor of PS3.

I like it because it's funny… the fact that MS and even Wii offer comparable if not superior experiences in most/every category just makes this witty advertising to people who understand the technology.

And to those that don't… it's true that PS3 is still the only one to have Blu Ray…

In the end consumers are going to pick Move over Kinect since Move is a solid product with precise game control. Kinect cannot offer the same level of control and diversity of genres it can work with. I got the Move from Amazon on Friday and have been loving it. Well done Sony.

i have never doubted ps3 for 1 second, i think this can make it all turn around for them now. sony has always built quality, i have had my ps3 for 3 years now n its never let me down i remember the 1st 360 i bought n it broke on the 3rd day. i have loadsa friends with broken 360's cuz they always overheat!

I got the Move on launch day. Very impressed. Most important thing to me about motion control is accuracy and lag. I don't see how Kinect can equal Move or surpass it in those areas.

  well my ps3 is very quiet -_-. the ps3 has it power switch in the back and was first with touch sensitive buttons. For the wifi n, that xbox came out latter, in addition for the 5 usb, why don't you just by a friggin usb hub? Overall all xbox does is copy, ps3 slim then xbox slim, lol ridiculous.

    The PS3 slim has NO ON?OFF switch I have one, it can only be either on or on stanby but NOT off unless you unplug it, It does "not" have touch sensitive buttons either.
    
    You are talking about the PS3 Phat which did have them but they removed it all and unbelivably also took away the ON/OFF switch (And even the gloss finish)
    
    So what if the 360 S came out later ?, Wireless N was around when the PS3 slim was built but they didn't add it.
    
    As for the USB hub I have one (Not out of choice though) and even then it HAS to have a cable coming out of the front to connect it.

Just got the Kinect and it's awesome! Nothing happens if someone is accidentally in the shot.

It's really accurate and I'm sure the games will get better and better.

Can't knock the Move as I haven't played it yet, but the fact you need controllers does it right there for me.

  Ok I have been waiting to ask someone who has the kinect and plays it. What games are you playing? and why do you like it so much? outside of the novelty. my problem is I don't see any games I want to spend money on to play. The idea of using your body as the controller is cool, but for me the idea of running in place or jumping up and down is not going to do it. If they have a game like Madden, (graphics +quality) where I can be the quarterback, where I get to throw or moving out the pocket, or deciding to run with the ball. etc. . That could be great. But so far I have not seen anything like that. Everything looks simple (kids games) . So can you tell me what I am missing? I see potential of the concept, but as far as I can tell the games are not up to the technology of the device.
