iOS 4.2 Downgrade: iPhone 4, 3GS to 4.1, 4.0.1 firmware for Jailbreak

If you own an Apple device which is running iOS 4.2 or 4.1 you may have noticed that you are not able to jailbreak it yet, therefore you may want to downgrade to a previous iOS version such as 4.0.1 so that you can, if so this is the post for you.

If you would like to downgrade your Apple device’s iOS version from iOS 4.2 or 4.1 you should check out this article for full details, however make sure that you take the necessary precautions beforehand, such as saving the ECIDs with SHSH to Cydia Server.

The instructions are for both Mac and Windows users, and will let you roll back from iOS 4.2 to 4.1, 4.0.1 or iOS 4.0.2.

I have read through the instructions and I must say that they are for quite technically minded people, if you are running iOS 4.1 perhaps you should just wait for the GreenPoison jailbreak.

Did you find GadgetsDNA’s instructions useful?

UPDATE – The tips on Gadgets DNA will only help those that have saved the ECIDs with SHSH to Cydia Server already, and done that for iOS 4.1, 4.0.1 or 4.0.2, sorry for any confusion caused.

    Misleading title dumbass…
you would have had to of started at 4.0 in order to downgrade (AND saved your SHSH to Cydia)

You make it sound like this is THE solution to everyone with 4.1/4.2
I realize you mentioned that you needed to backup your SHSH … but no iphone4 comes with 4.0 installed anymore so this article is pretty useless…

considering it was posted on September 16.

goddamit. so much garbage i'm raging

can someone tell me how to upgrade firmware 3.1.2 (7D11) to 4.0 the latest up date on itune is 4.1 and its not jailbreak able as of yet….. help

  • bozek

Yep you need to be a 4.0 then accidentally upgraded to a 4.2 after that you can downgrade once you have the 4.0 saved SHSH fila at cydia. BUT THE BOTTOM LINE IS THE NEW IPHONE 4 with the version 4.2 already that is the question if we can downgrade it???

It might cost you a problem if you don't know what you're doing and also if, your unit was on Jailbroken state. iOS 4.2 Latest Must-Have Updates

In order to downgrade Iphone4 OS 4.1 to 4.0.1 could someone share their file OS 4.0.1 that saved on SHSH to people who dose not have their file. If can do please give me an instruction. I need to downgrade my Iphone to unlock it.

    Thanks

You can't do that. SHSH files are unique with each idevice so that mean you can't share it with someone.
