Whenever I hear of people complaining about ways that Google can access your data I’m usually quite skeptical and think that people are being over-the-top, however one of Google’s elite technical group members has recently been dismissed for breaking Google’s internal privacy policies.
The person who has been fired is David Barksdale, he was apparently apparently using his access Gmail and Google Talk to spy on at least four underage teens.
From what we can see Barksdale got a kick out of accessing peoples personal information, in one case he unblocked himself from a Gmail buddy list, another incident saw him invite teens to the movies.
The good news is that only personal data was access and nothing more serious than that happened, as soon as Google became aware of Barksdale’s actions he was fired, reiterating that they take any breach of personal information very seriously.
Gawker’s source has this to say on the matter “My gut read on the situation was that there wasn’t any strong sexual predatory behavior, just a lot of violating people’s personal privacy”.
