PS2 to PS3 Adapter: New Backwards Compatible Accessory

By Updated on

If you are like me and still own one of the original fat 60GB PlayStation 3’s, you are able to play all your old PlayStation one and two games. But a lot of gamers have PS3’s without this feature, but Sony could be in the process of fixing this problem.

An article by Spencer on Siliconera.com is reporting that Sony have filed a patent for a new generation to previous generation console adapter. The schematic diagram shows the proposed device has a DVD decoder/emulator, a sound processor, and a graphic processor. The emulator looks to be for a DVD emulator not Blu-ray, so it may not be emulating a PS3.

At the moment this is only a patent application, so Sony might not even bother to bring any PS2 to PS3 adapter to production, but any such device would surely sell like hot cakes. But here is a thought, what if this new device is intended for the next generation of PlayStation?

Use the link to see the diagram. Would you be interested in any such device if it becomes available?
