Samsung Fascinate: List of Official Problems After Release

We have some important information for those of you already with, or planning to pick up a Samsung Fascinate handset, as Verizon has issued a document with a full list of known issues for the phone.

As reported from BGR, none of these issues can be identified as major, while the problems that have been mentioned are likely to get fixed up in the forthcoming Android 2.2 Froyo update.

Problems listed include a syncing issue with exchange email and yahoo email, latency with Google and Bing Maps, a blank screen on Caller ID, feeds and widgets not updating and many more.

If you have experienced any of these issues, you can find temporary solutions over at BGR, as well as a full list of all known problems with the Fascinate.

    I haven't noticed any of the above issues YET, but I noticed that when I was texting one friend, I went to reply, and as soon as I hit send, it randomly changed the receiver to another friend. Obviously, she was confused at a random message that made no sense to her. I have no idea why or how it changed which contact I was sending to, as it showed as if I was in the same Thread, but showed a different name. I also noticed that while on my Messages screen, a friend's name wouldn't show up, instead it showed their number above their message. Nothing major, but hopefully it gets worked out in 2.2 and we get the update soon. I don't want anymore rogue messages. I gotta say though, I really do love this phone for the most part.

      Had a similar issue. Received a message that said it was from my Aunt and it didn’t make any sense so I assumed it was intended for someone else. So I replied to her saying that I think she meant to send that message to someone else. All of a sudden, my boss replied back to me asking me what my last message meant. I was all confused cuz my phone kept switching the contact.

      Mine does the EXACT thing!!! I called verizon and they did a hard reset on the phone. It did not fix the issue, so iI was sent a "like new" replacement. I was told by berizon that it was an issue with the new software update.This "like new" phone has an echo and a "ping" sound if you tap on the back of it.
      I reactivated my original phone with the screwy text message issue. They are supposed to send me another phone next week so I hope it works.

      I have two of these phones and they both do this. I called verizon they told me to reset well I did and its still doing it. I called back and they said they would send me a "like new" phone but why the hell would I want a used phone. I got these Brand new and they have problems already, I can imagine what the used phones would be like.

    it kicks me out of some applications and sends me back to the main screen and i have a case on my phone and when im on a call and turn up the volume it hangs up on the call

    The phone has got a very lovable feel.The problems mentioned in the article haven't been experienced by a very huge number of customers.Though if any customer experiences problems then he/she could contact BJR for solution.

    My widgets and such wont auto update, i havent messed with it too much yet to try and fix it but i dont think it will be to hard of a fix.

    In my hotmail email account, I have been unable to open any email that has an attachment. The screen appears to be frozen, but you are able to exit that screen at any time.

    My text msg's randomly come in by numbers and the contacts are listed in my phone, no rhyme or reason it just does this periodically. The past few days it wont send my text msgs and is constantly going off saying I have no connection, no network? You know we have six lines with Verizon and my husband & I both bought new phones. His screen went out, got a replacement today and that screen has a huge green line running down the middle of it! Im sure that the other cellular companies would love to have us as customers seeing that 4 of the lines are pda's, Verizon..doesnt seem to care! I used to sing Verizons praises, now, Im not too sure!

    phone less than 48hrs old, screen goes nuts. Turn bright white, starts strobing, gets really hot. pulled the battery, it's even hot. Put the battery back and turned phone back on, same strobing screen. Called Tech Support they have me put phone into a full reset, then re-push the firmware to the phone. Start over like a new phone, re-enter Emails accounts, back up through Google. Everything back to perfect. They said it was a glitch and should not happen again. Well about 30minutes later it goes nuts again. Still trying to figure it out. Phone has not been dropped, not been wet, doesn't have a scratch. Any Ideas?????

    This phone was a replacement for the 3 Droid X's that did not work.

    By the way, no additional apps loaded, not photos taken, nothing other than factory preloaded software.

      Me too or goesblack. On second phone not sure I want to try a third loved the phone but come on shouldnt b happening after a week. Very dissapointed only happens when case is on too

      Same thing for me. The screen randomly gets scrambled then goes completely white. I bought it three days ago.

    had same problems with the phone going to a blank black screen and freezing up. love the phone but have only had it for a week. suffered a small drop this evening and screen cracked. time to go fight with verizons more than poor customer service.

    I find when my phone is plugged in and I try to do anything it keeps flashing back to the charging screen…I can’t do anything unless I unplug it!!! Anyone else with this problem? I’ve had it only a few days…

      me too and the charger keeps connecting and disconnecting. I cant get a full charge. this may be a problem with the charger mini-usb and not the phone.

        Try charging it with a USB connection into a computer instead of AC. You should be able to access everything while it charges.

    My fascinate started out awesome then as I started downloading apps the phone got noticeably slower and started even locking up sometimes. Just recently when I hit send to send a text the text window when black and only the keyboard was showing and when my wife called me the phone played a different ringtone and only her number popped up on the caller id as if she wasn't saved in my phone contacts. I checked the contacts and Everyone was in there. The numbers for the text messages quit showing the contacts name also so I pulled the battery to shut the phone off reinstalled and tried to power up the phone and you get the samsung logo then the intro galaxy s and the verizon loading logo and all the music but after that the screen goes blank and never loads up to the home screen. You can hold the power button down and the power off option screen pops up and you can shut the phone off and it does a normal power down with verizon logo and sound. But when you power it back up you get the same thing. Wont load to the main screen! I haven't even had this phone a month yet! About 3 weeks of constant heavy use.

      Sound is the only problem I have with mine, love everything else. It sounds staticy on and off not bad where people can't hear me, just enough to annoy me and the person on the other line.

      I have the same problem!! I dont understand why it is so staticky! The guy told me that I should Call the tech suport and I told him it was like that brand new! He said I shouldnt be talking on the phone while driving anyways and it was their way of preventing wrecks. I was speechless.

    i just got the fascinate and i am not able to sync my facebook with my contacts. it keeps on telling me there is a sync error and that it will try again in a bit. anyone else having this problem?

    Fascinating…just got this phone and have had a few important glitches pop up — notifications are late and sometimes never arriving. Just received a VM notification from a message that was left 4 hours ago. Also when receiving text different names from my contacts list will show on the scrolling bar at the top (which is a great feature if it worked properly). Apps crash all the time while in use. External SD Card was "Damaged" and lost all media/pics due to having to reformat it. Email is not syncing/refreshing every 5 minutes or for any set period…can only get a full refresh by re-starting entire phone. Otherwise this is the coolest phone! I really wish it worked. I have tried soft and hard resets along with a few other tweeks so hopefully I can wait it out for the next OS release.

    Bought 2 of these phones 2 weeks ago. First one started ringing a constant ,very annoying ring everytime you turned the phone off and back on. Went to Verizon. They said an app was downloaded wrong. Are you kidding me? How do you download an app wrong? Like this was my fault! Anyway, they convinced me to do a factory reset, couldn't tell me how to retrieve apps I had paid for, and I left feeling like I had made the worst mistake ever switching to Verizon. This morning the 2nd phone froze on Verizon's webpage. When I rebooted , the friggin ringing started. I had to put the phone in silent mode to get it to stop. Volume control did not work. I paid $483 for 2 phones(still waiting on rebates). My 1st bill is like $400. These phones should not be having issues!

    I've noticed one MAJOR problem for me that affects my everyday usage of this smartphone. The microphone on this device doesnt seem to function on certain apps. Uloops being one of them and Voice Recorder being another.

    I am gladd I found this forum. I have been thinking about taking my Droid 2 back and exchange for the Samsung Fascinate. But after reading these comments, I would only be trading one bad problem for another. I am having email sync issues with my Droid 2. My work emails default to December 31, 1969 and I can not send or reply to any emails sent to my work email. Verizon was aware of this issue and failed to tell customers. Verizon used to be the best wireless provider, but not anymore.

    I've had my Facinate for 3 days and it was working great untill today. The screen wont load it goes straight to a bright white screen, and it is extremely overheating.

    I have the fascinate. and sometimes when i get a text message, in the notification bar, it will say its from someone else. and earlier today, i would press the messaging icon and it would open to an app that i have in applications. i dont get why its doing that. its frustrating.

    I have had the Samsung Fascinate for a month and it has been the most frustrating phone I have ever had. I miss most of my phone calls – even when the phone is right next to me it never rings and there is no notification of a missed call or any indication that a call was received on the call log. The 3G service does not stay connected unless I turn off the phone and turn it back on again- which happens 6-7 times a day and by that time the battery is dead and needs to be recharged. It takes great pictures- but I need a phone not a camera.

    I've owned the Fascinate for about ten days (I've owned an Incredible, so I'm not new to Android). Problems so far? It sometimes changes the recipient of a test message after you hit 'send.' When it synced with gmail, it brought in some contacts by name, some only by phone number, and some only by email address. Then, when it adds them to the phone and resyncs automatically, it creates TWO phone numbers for most contacts, one with the area code in parentheses and one without. So you can't just call a friend; you have to choose which of the identical phone numbers you want to use (with or without parentheses). Email sometimes syncs, often once every 9-12 hours, despite the 5 minute setting. Emails come in dated 12/31/69. And don't get me started on how, the first time it synced with gmail, phone numbers for over 30 contacts were erased from gmail contacts, and all gmail contacts after the letter "V" were erased from gmail contacts. Voice mails register several hours after they are left for me. The phone's going back to Verizon. I can't wait on the upgrade to see if it fixes things.

    Have had phone for two weeks. Not many apps loaded. Having trouble with bluetooth connecting. Phone keeps getting stuck on differnt home screens and having to pop battery. In general seems glitchety. Hope 2.2 fixes. Any advise?

    I'm on my second Fascinate already, and this one has problems, too. When I'm on the phone with someone and I receive an incoming call, I can't answer or ignore the incoming caller, and I can't hang up with the person I'm talking to either. Like the my first Fascinate, this one completely freezes because it can't handle it, and then I have to shut off the phone and repower it to get it to work again. Both Fascinates have a very slow GPS as well. It usually takes about five minutes for it to locate me, which is very annoying when I'm lost or in a rush. Plus, there is a slight lag when scrolling through contacts. I can live with the lag, but the freezing infuriates me, and the GPS is pretty annoying, too. Without these problems, the phone would be awesome. I love it when it works well.

    P.S. I forgot to mention that when I'm on a call and I AM able to click into an incoming call, it always disconnects me from the original phone call. Then, when I hang up with the second caller, the phone rings to "give me back" the first caller. It's very irritating.

    Wait, I'm remembering more annoying things. When I'm on a call, my screen often goes into locked mode, and I have to unlock it just to hang up. Adjusting the time that the phone takes to go into lock mode helps a bit, but not for longer calls, and the timing seems inconsistent. Also, with my first Fascinate, I often had trouble pressing numerical buttons when on the phone with an automated system. My phone wouldn't register that my finger was pressing on the screen. Luckily, my second Fascinate hasn't done that yet. In addition, I'm constantly muting myself on phone calls because the mute button is very sensitive and it is located where your cheek might graze it or rest on it. Sometimes the person on the other end of the line says, "Hello, hello?" and I think it's a bad connection until I figure out what happened. Also, sometimes the phone pad disappears when I'm on a call, so I have to go to the home page, press the phone icon, and then hang up…to many steps to end a phone call. It's not possible to surf the Internet while on the phone either. Finally, when I'm typing a text-message, unless I turn the phone to have a horizontal view of the screen, the flashing icon does not appear in the message box. If I have to revise a word, then, I press where to revise and have to guess that the invisible icon is where I want it to be. I don't know until I start typing, though–or until I turn the phone. The icon is only visible when holding the phone in one way.

    Jeez, now that I think about it, I put up with a lot of nonsense with this phone. Maybe I will try to trade it in for a new one.

    Oh, wow, I've just remembered one more thing. When my Fascinate synched with my gmail account, it imported the email addresses of every person that I'd ever emailed, even though they were NOT in my saved contact list. There was an email address for a guy that I'd met one time at a bar and another one for a customer service address for a company, etc., and they all appeared in my phone, which meant that I had more to sort through. I was irritated…had to wipe out all data and start over with a fake gmail account that I had to create just to use the phone.

    Wow, I've had many of the same problems along with poor WiFi and 3G service even when next to a router or near a tower while driving. Can't use many of the smart features if I can't get to 3G while driving. Impossible to call from my home or office (previous phone and others on my account work fine in same area.) This seems to be some real design issues. Don't get incoming calls, can't use any voice features. Short battery life and screen gets too hot even with only a two minute on time. Can't even check for updates. While standing inside a verizon store and being called by verizon tech support, call went to voicemail.

    I have a very annoying problem with this Samsung Fascinate where it will freeze and display a black screen for HOURS. If I press the screen the home rows on the very bottom of the phone will illuminate but the main screen remains black. I can take the battery out and repalce it several times to no avail. I have called Verizon and they want to replace it. My friend had the same issue and when the phone finally came back on our Buddy List was gone. According to Verizon's Tech Support this is not a known issue. Please Help~!

    My fascinate is mstly doing fine and I really like it so far. I am hvaing the text message strangeness though, and from reading these comments, it looks common. Somebody, please, fix these in the update: When texts come in, they should display the saved contact's name, not phone number! And, every once in a while, a text comes in and for about thirty seconds the phone tells me it's from someone it's not from at all (just some other contact). Very confusing! Soon, though, the phone corrects itself and displays the correct sender. ??? Other than that, I like this phone. It's my first ever smart phone (I hated the thought before) but I'm converted.

      I am having this same problem with the lowercase/uppercase "I"… I work with Verizon tech support and have not figured this one out yet. I think it is a software glitch that hopefully Samsung is aware of and can fix with a upcoming patch. I dont think its that big of a deal but it is annoying :)

    I am on my second Fascinate, and this one is doing same thing as the other one. Email seems to hand up at midnight so that I get no new emails without rebooting. Also, phone freezes up so that I cannot use the screen or buttons. Incoming call goes straight to voice mail

    my phone is two months old and when the battery is almost dead it has that super bright light and it gets really hot. I’m but really that impressed. I should have chose a different phone. Samsung sucks and I should have known better when my instinct sucked as well.

    I just recently bought my SAMSUNG Fascinate, I love the phone, it actually has not given me any problems, I've had the phone for about a month now and just today just screen went black and would not do anything, i took the battery out, turned it back on and colored lines came across the screen, I have insurance so I brought it into Verizon thinking that insurance was good to have, when i explained to the worker what had happen, he looked at my phone and said the screen is broken INSIDE, I haven't hit my phone, dropped my phone, been ruff with my phone, again I tried explaining to the worker I HAVE not broken my screen, so long story short I walked out a very upset customer and still a broken phone.

    Has anyone had this problem? Like I said I have not done anything to "break" the screen, What is insurance good for?

      This happened to my phone after two weeks–they told me it was a "stress fracture" that I had cracked the crystals INSIDE the screen. Like you, I had not done anything to my phone to physically harm it. After less, than two months of having his phone, my son's phone screen "cracked" with no physical damage. Personally, I think these phones are just not good quality. Maybe they can't tolerate cold weather? I don't know what the deal is but people are being ripped off!!!!

      I am on my 3rd "reconditioned" fascinate and all of them do the same thing with the colored lines across the screen. Then the sound quits working and they die. Then Verizon treats me like I'm crazy. I even videotaped it. They said they have never seen this problem. What happened to customer service? I just want a new phone!

    my Samsung Fascinate was wonderful for the first 30 days. then it decided that it will no longer sync, the USB will no longer mount to my computer, i hear mostly static when on a call, it erases random saved sounds every other day or so, it freezes every few hours, and it no longer will play any form of movies. i went to Verizon, and they honestly tried to help, but they ultimately could not and had me contact Verizon tech support, who decided to send me a replacement Samsung Fascinate. the replacement has more glitches and problems then the previous one (all the same issues, but also now my phone doesn't normally ring when there is a call, and it erases saved pictures), so i contacted Samsung tech support. all they kept telling me is that i need to replace my phone, even though i repeatedly told them that i already had, they kept telling me that i need to replace my phone. so hopefully in the next few days i will replace my phone, with something other then a Samsung.

    I like my phone but I have has a few issues. I have had my phone since black Friday. It is now december 12, so I havent had it long. Everytime I am driving, when I call someone the call is filled with static and the other person can not hear me at all. It gets very old after about 5 mins. My phone has gone completely black twice now and I dont understand why. I just hit the lock button repeatedly and it seemed to jigg it out of the frozen mode. I cant take my battery out cause this guy at the mall put my case on my phone so tight i cant get it off. So Im screwed if I ever do need to take my battery out. EVERYONE WHO HAS POSTED ON THIS FORUM: Half the problems on here, were the same problem on the Droid Motorolla. That is what Im switching from. I thought I would upgrade, but Im just staying the same.

    I havent visited the sites on the HTC Incredible, but my personal experience with it would suggest if you want a solid performer, get the HTC. I have been using an HTC Desire in Europe for six months, now I'm using an HTC Incredible in the US, and my better half has an Incredible also, and we love these phones.

    Had the phone since just before Thanksgiving. Only 2 main issues so far:
    1. Initially this worked fine, now when I go to hang up a phone call, the phone routinely changes from active call to screen lock. I have to unlock it just to hang up.
    2. Swipe has disappeared. I cannot find out why, nor can I get it active again.

    Nothing but problems. Not able to edit contacts. Freezing, nothing refreshed when they are supposed to, no notifications from emails, kik, fb. Im taking it back. I was way better off with my blackberry.

    I have the fascinate which worked good for a couple of month. Recently when I tried to connect internet with search key. the search screen didn't move and stuck. I turned off the phone and turn it back on again. Then it worked well and later same problem happened.

    I have had this fascinate phone for 2 months and have had to take the phone back for a reset. the phone was strobing for no reason. Most recently the phone has lost all pictures and videos stored on the phone. this phone sucks.!!!!!!!!!!

    I have had the phone since the end of September. Today the phone completely locked up and the screen does not respond to touch at all. Contacted Verizon and it is now going to take 4 days to get a replacement phone. It has also been doing some strange things with the bluetooth and the 2.2 Froyo update still has not been released. I loved the phone initially but am becoming rather disappointed with Samsung and Verizon!!!

    The microphone isn't that great. My old phone used to record in car radio to send to girlfriend (mush yes), but this is horrible recording.

    Also, the VAD (voice activated dialing) by nuance is HORRIFIC. Takes forever to load and voice recognition is bad as well. Ironically, the speech converstion feature of voice to text is amazing.

    Also, when my phone is plugged in, the left side of the screen (1/8") becomes dead at times. especially near the Q and A keys. If I unplug, it's fine. it makes typing a pain in the butt.

    I have seen random texts to wrong person, but that's because of the way the phone organizes texting threads. I've send "adult' text to wrong person because of it. yikes.

    I am experiencing several issues with my Fascinate:
    1. My text messages don't always go through, especially picture messages.
    2. Whenever I power the phone off, and turn it back on, it re-sends random texts to people that I had sent at some point since the last time I'd powered off. Since I don't power off often, sometimes it's text messages that were sent weeks ago! It's very confusing to the receivers of the texts!
    3. The screen freezes up and does not recognize my pushing of buttons
    4. It's almost impossible to use the touchscreen while on a phone conversation, the screen keeps going black. Makes it very difficult when trying to punch in dialpad options on an automated call.

    Got my first Fasinate right before Thanksgiving. I would receive text messages that say they are from one person but when I opened the message it was from someone else. Also, the phone freezes quite a bit. Traded it for another on thinking the first one was bad. NOPE, the second one is doing the same thing. Also, just tonight turned it off and then back on and it took forever to come on and when it did it said it can't connect to a network. No one can really give a definite answer. I love this phone but am so aggrivated. Supposedly there is going to be an Android update verizon said to wait and see if that helps. Kind of want to get a different droid phone but have no idea what to get. Has anyone else had these problems????

    I feel so bad for those of you who received bad fascinates. My company now carries 4 and we couldn't be more pleased. Not a single problem with any of them. They are a great asset to our company as well as great companions while we are on the road working. Hang in there folks, hopefully samsung will right the wrongs cause the phone have truly been nothing short of great for us. We purchased ours 2 weeks after hitting the market in Colorado and have ran nonstop for almost three months. Mine even spent the night in a snow pile when it fell out of my pocket last week. I found it the next day and once it warmed up have had no problems at

    Last night i woke about around 4am and i grabbed my phone and it was BURNING UP. like it was super hot. i unplugged it for a bit then tried to plug it up again and i had a message saying “Warning: your phone is to hot to be charged” or something like that…. i thought i was dreaming but when i woke up my roomate told me she felt the phone too?..its now back to normal i was just wondering what caused it?

    This phone absolutely sucks major ass. Connectivity issues, text msg issues (changing names, force closing and deleting all messages), 3G nonexistent, overheats easily, slow as shit, the list is endless. I just want to slam it against the wall sometimes. Complete piece of shit.

    This phone is horrible and so is Verizon!!!!! I have had the Samsung Fascinate since the end of November and have experienced nothing but problems. My main problem is the lag in receiving my emails. They seem to appear whenever…….. Even though it is set to every 5 minutes. At times I receive 20 to 30 at a time even though I refresh and turn the phone off an on as directed by the Verizon rep.
    I have been to the Verizon store app. 8-10 times with one replacement phone and another on the way. I have spoken to Tech supp. and was advised to speak to Samsung directly. I should not have to Verizon is the one selling the product. Verizon should stop selling this product either completely or until this problem is fixed. Visiting the Verizon store has become a part time job for me!!!! I am so unhappy with Verizon the techs have been wonderful but the management is terrible and very unsympathetic to their customers complaints. I am a busy working mom of two children and rely heavily on my email to guide me through the day. Is it right to take money for a service that is not being provided??? any suggestions???????

    I spent over an hour on the phone with Verizon today explaining to them how when I get messages it shoes that it is coming in from a different person. The guy told me that "no other customer out of the millions of customers has reported that problem". I am glad to see that guy is full of shit. He wanted to wipe my entire phone!! I have already done this once, lost EVERYTHING, even stuff I had paid for, and it didn't work. I told them thanks anyways….

    I absolutely hate this phone. No emails coming through….what about the 41 pre-installed apps that YOU CAN NOT DELETE off the phone? Apps that when you click on them, they charge you like NFS Shift and Tetris. Why do I want Verizon to pick 41 apps for me that I have not plans in using most of them. Can anyone tell me how to get these off my phone?

    I have a ton of problems with mine. And I havr a similar texting issue. Except mine shows that the text is from a different person at first but it corrects itself and has never sent a message to the wrong person. But my mic for talk to text doesnt work anymore. My phone wont take videos anymore. Autocorrect crap for typing is really stupid… I’ll die for no reason and not even be restartable until it just feels like (with a full battery)… All in all, yeah, I hate this phone and it is highly overrated. So now I get to go dump $650 on the right phone. The iPhone 4. :)

    i just got mine a month and 4 days, i got it on december 31st, worked great, so i had a surf contest on february 4th, after i get out of the water i go change and blah blah blah, im back into my clothes and i go check my phone, (my phone was in the car and was NOT exposed to any water damages) there is just a screen thats black, i can hear messages and everything come in, so idk about this phone im taking it back today and im gonna argue until they fix it or give me a new one. i dropped it 2 weeks ago and this was yesterday so idk if it has to do with anything

    my messaging is odd. sometimes when i get a new message from someone, it shows their number instead of their name. and an hour ago, i got this notification saying the messaging app crashed or something. and i just looked at my phone and all my messages are deleted. even the locked ones. fml.

    also, my friend has the fascinate, and she says the phone gets stuck on the camera though.

    that's about it. except for the first night i got it, not one message would send. but it doesn't do that anymore.

    I have had at least four incidents where the phone would not make a call. Everything on the display looks normal but it will not ring the number called. If I shut the phone off and reboot it then it will work normal again.

    I am unable to receive my email on a consistent basis. all of a sudden the messages disappear and I get one message for either . or both of my carriers – optonline and aol> the messag is always the same " load more messages:" Nothing happens if i press on that message. The technical people at verizon do not have a clue. Thursday i spent 3 hours with their techie and friday i spent two hours.

      I’ve been having this problem. Email worked SORT OF when I first got it, but it never showed ALL the same msgs I see on my computer. Then it got worse,  showed fewer. Spent two hours on phone with techie, couldn’t fix and couldn’t reactivate the email account once removed. Today spent two hours in Verizon store. We tried another same phone/same OS — same problem, just one new email will show up at a time. And we tried activating my email account on a whole other operating system phone, same problem. So we think it has to do with optonline, not with phone itself, not with software. Now trying to call optonline……and meanwhile poling around on-line to see if there’s a fix.

    Worst phone I ever had. I'm on my third in 5 months and continue to have the same problem. I'll be on a call and it will go to mute without anything being pushed. All of the sudden, the person I'm talking to can't hear me. It will freeze randomly – especially when a call is coming in – making it impossible to answer.

    Verizon keeps telling me there are no "known" issue. Three pages of comments here – hmmmmm…

      I’ve had this problem and realized I must be pushing the MUTE button inadvertently with my chin. Happens especially when I’m trying to hold the phone with my shoulder rather than with my hand.

    I've had the fascinate for quite a while. I have also had issues with the phone locking up on me as well as text message issues. But the most annoying issue… my alarm clock randomly decides not to work. I use this as my main alarm in the morning and now I can't trust it! Ugh!!

    Since the 2.2 update, I can no longer control the Sound Display function under Settings. No matter what I do now the dail pad still sounds. Does anyone have a solution?

    alright so this phone is reaally reaally pissing me off. i've had it for not even a month and its already freaking out on me very frequently. like everyone has mentioned, sometimes it only displays the person's phone number rather than their name when i get a text message and also sometimes it just completely switches the contacts name with someone else in my contacts list. this is very frustrating when you send someone the wrong text. also my phone has completely erased ALL of my text messages including the locked ones like 3 or 4 times now. i love this phone very much other than these major issues but its the most frustrating phone that i have ever owned.

(That will be 3 in less than a year!) My phone likes to take screen captures when I press the lock button then it freezes. It gets very hot sometimes. It will vibrate a lot and close me out of whatever I am doing. It will have service and not send messages. It freezes a lot. It’ll say it has no service and the only way I get any is by powering the phone off and taking the battery out. So on average in a day I probably take my battery out and restart my phone about 3 to 4 times a day. My mom and best friend have the same phone and they have the same issues. I love my phone just hate all these problems!!! But for some who may not know, Samsung did a recall on this phone and they’re not contacting anyone because there’s so many people with this phone but that’s why I got my phone replaced the first time and all the problems were suppose to be fixed. This last time I called they did a factory reset on my phone, I think it only made it worse! So we will see how this next phone does!

    I have had my phone less then 24 hours and the screen is already freezing! When its not frozen there are delays between switching screens and the touch screen will select an apt that I DID NOT touch. Needless to say I will be exchanging my phone.

    I just received a replacement because on my first when the feature that made to phone click when you type wouldn’t turn off the replacement is doing the same exact thing! Not happy with this! I will be calling Verizon and asking for a different device I do not want another Fascinate and I would not recommend it to anyone!

    So many issue with this phone!! I am on my third in 13 months. The first being new and the other two refurbished. I just got the 3rd one on Tuesday and it was messing up by that night!! Grrr!! Messages come in under the wrong contact name, the phone freezes up when I try to take a picture, my text messages won’t send out for a couple days and then suddenly they all send at once. Can be very confusing for the people on the receiving end! One of the most irritating things is when I try to turn the screen off, it captures a picture of the screen and then freezes up and I have to take the battery out to fix it! It mutes in the middle of a phone call & no I didn’t push the mute button with my chin. Also, my calendar alarm will go off for a something that isn’t scheduled for that day. So many issues I can’t think of all of them right now! I have always been a Samsung fan but this phone really sucks!! How many refurbished Fascinates do I have to go through before Verizon will realize that Im not going to give up and give me a different phone? This one was not cheep!!

      OMG I have the same exact problems. I am on my third one in 6 months. Verizon cannot figure out what is wrong with it, and is finally allowing me an upgrade that i have to PAY for. I have to settle for another phone that is not my choice because of this crappy phone, but yet I have to pay $199.  for this new phone. They are stumped when I call them every week with the same problems and all they can say is “well we can do a factory reset” which I do almost every week.

    Ive noticed that when I plug my phone into the charger, it will act like its charging and when it says its full and right when you unplug it the battery says its partially full. This started right after the update.
