iPhone iOS 4.1: Jailbreak and Unlock – Bootrom Exploit Confirmed

For those of you who listened to the warning from the iPhone Dev Team and didn’t update to iOS 4.1, we have some good news for you. It has been confirmed that an iPhone hacker has managed to find a bootrom exploit for iOS 4.1.

As reported from RedmondPie, this means that a jailbreak and unlock solution is now likely to follow, once pod2g (the person responsible) posts full instructions and download links for the exploit.

For those of you who are familiar with a bootrom exploit, here is the message that Pod2g posted on Twitter, confirming that the method works on iOS 4.1:

”Works on 4.1 (!) iBSS iv=c2c5416472e5a0d6f0a25a123d5a2b1c key=1fbc7dcafaec21a150a51eb0eb99367550e24a077b128831b28c065e61f894a0”

It is another headache for Apple, since Pod2g decided to announce the bootrom exploit shortly after Apple posted the official update on iTunes – a bit of a coincidence don’t you think?

Either way, consider this a victory for the jailbreak team. We’ll let you know once a download becomes available.

    4.1 is not breakable unless it’s already jailbroke on previous version. You can however revert back to 4.0 break then update to break 4.1 using tiny umbrella download goto YouTube and easy as pie from there have reverted my iPhone 3GS came with 4.1 and now jailbroke on 4.1can give instructions if needed

    I am in the same situation I think. Got a brand new iPhone 3GS with 4.1 (8B117) 05.14.02 never been jailbroken before. Could you please let me know the exact steps you did to jailbreak yours?     I would like to have the instructions plz, I just got a 3GS iphone with 4.1 firmware. So, it is jailbreakable? If yes, have you experienced any functionality troubles afterwords? Like wifi not working and other app crashes? Thank you very much! Thomas

    iPhone 3G, updated to 4.1, and jailbroken with Redsn0w. Do you think that I have any chance to unlock my phone before New Years ? It was unlocked before but I was so stupid and I updated… Do you think there's a chance to unlock already updated to 4.1 ? Thanks so much. And btw, I cannot revert baseband, it's the new one.

    I just used limera1n now to jailbreak my iphone 4 and it went ok but i couldnt unlock so any one knows how to unlock it please? thnx

    jailbreak for all devices on 4.1 is every where in the web, just look for limera1n jailbreak and the tutorials too, unlock is not available until the 4.2 release on november

    If you want to Jailbreak 4.1 just use Limera1n, from http://www.limera1n.com, although you will not be able to unlock the baseband until limesn0w or Pwnage tool 4.1 come out.
