O2 UK Launch Android 2.1 Update for Dell Streak

By Jamie Pert - Sep 6, 2010

Earlier today we revealed that Dell had released the update to Android 2.1 Eclair for the Dell Streak, now we are hearing that the UK carrier O2 launched the over-the-air update.

Originally the Dell Streak launched with Android 1.6 Donut, many believed this was holding back the Streak’s potential, therefore I am sure this update will be popular with Streak owners.

Once you install the update you should have easier to use and more intuitive access to social networking websites, there will also be multitouch support, 720p video recording capabilities.

If you have a Dell Streak on O2 you should receive an update message pretty soon, if not don’t worry O2 are probably rolling out the update to a few thousand devices at a time.

If you haven’t received the update by tomorrow morning perhaps force it manually, you can do this by pressing menu, settings, scrolling down to about phone and selecting system updates, if the update is available you should be able to download from the browser window that opens.

Have you installed Android 2.1 Eclair on your Streak? If so, did it all go smoothly?

Updated this morning, my streak is now a paperweight. Phone to be returned to Dell for "up to 10 days" to be repaired.

  • updated this morning. few niggles – lost all my contacts, cant seem to run videos and now flicking through albums is a bit jerky, but, on the whole looks nicer and does seem to run smoother.

dont like the fact that removing the headphones whilst music is playing doesnt stop the music.
