Sucks to be you people i got 2 codes in 15 min one for me and one for the wife… might want to upgrade your internet connection.

Still getting the error as of 1:04am PST 9/2/10. I'm afraid to go to sleep, I don't want to miss out on anything!

Has nothing to do with internet connection. It's that everyone jumped on the site once the open beta became available. Seems Square did not plan accordingly to how many people were going to want into this beta.

You can get the key you just have to be diligent and keep trying. I just got one about 15 min ago. Can't get the account log in. However, we have to remember part of their beta testing is to test their server load… I'm sure this was a good test run for them for opening day and they will adjust. They did so with the closed beta and while annoying usually had the problem fixed in 24 hours.

I'm sure there will be some kind of demo for a week or so when it's done. This is a BETA version, so you're not going to get the smooth gameplay and you actively have to provide feedback, more than "testing it out" regarding if you want to buy it. You're looking for a demo. Anyways, good luck!

Between the ugly ugly Fatigue system, then push back of Open beta test (yes even a day), and now the servers crash, Im going to say strike three on my excitement. This is nothing but even more poor planning on the part of Square-enix. Lets just release everything to the entire planet at the same time and hope it all goes well. Just got my code!!! Got through, had to login to my square acct, then I got a new email with the code, just keep trying.

Once you get the code, add the ffxiv service, enter the code, mine said servery busy so i tried again and it went through, here is a pic of the confirmation that i added the service so no thumbs down plz.

Tryed many on explorer and couldn't get one too. Tryed once on Fire Fox and got it.

FYI, If you don't meet the minimum system requirements DONT EVEN TRY TO PLAY IT! Unless you like choppy gameplay. FFXIV is using almost a gig of ram by itself in windowed mode.

i just got a beta key now and tried directly after to get a friend and they were temporarily suspended again; hopefully in a few hours they will release more. So far i havent even been able to log into the game due to long load times which lead to the message "cannot connect to lobby" which is very frustrating, and some of the higher populated servers have a log in queue of 650+ so ill try joining lesser populated server. if you on figaro server send me a tell name is blomba

I agree… this whole thing has been a catastrophe. I was so excited when I first heard about this game and then it has just been blow after blow. First Square gives a BS reason why they are basically only allowing 8 hours of play time, they obviously want people to keep going back to FFXI to keep it alive, then I stay up to try out the beta which fails… so I try again the next night and here it is 11 hours later still staring at server errors…

They have simply no way of gauging how much hardware they will need before they do this open beta. Last night, much to no intelligent gamer's surprise, the servers crashed and dragged. SE did the responsible thing by restricting further access, taking down the servers and beginning hardware installation. This is how it works folks. If you haven't seen this before then you haven't been a part of a successful unrestricted open beta. Also, to those comments that say "Well I'm not going to buy it" and "if this is how they…" we all know you're still going to buy it, no one is canceling their preorders. So just drop it, go about your day as usual, and come back tonight or tomorrow for more keys and better stability.

they should have anticipated this type of volume from pervious beta's… yet they cross their fingers and hold onto their tiny budget yet they make millions. to run only one server for beta keys… typical japs.. screw this game

i'm sorry if i come off offensive to any of you who seem enraged by the problems and changes but i'd like to adress some of the opinions made.

regarding the overall down time and constant bugs of the game even 25 days before release it is still to be expected and should not be judged as making the game "crap" or "pointless"
it very try and often enough that ALL game still under development are being tweaked and tested until the are shipped the the retail market, the whole purpose of beta' closed open and alphas' it to test the games itegrity and development progress.
ii feel that people forget that sometimems and expect the end product now.

in regards to the '8 hours gameplay' i believe the point was made that it is to resemble real life fatigue it also does help real life people keep their grasp of reality cuase we all know we get hooked as much as the next guy =p.
also on that point i'd like to add that the game by no means has ever indecated that it'll be based upon a leveling system it has one, which is affected by the 8 hours thing, however there is more to XIV than guildleves or base stat leveling.

it's trying very hard to to resemble a real life situation in a fantastic looking fantasy world,

'don't expect your PC (player character) to run 100 miles if you can't'.

anyways i to am waiting for the servers to stablise and be operational so we should sit with good spirits and wait for this VERY EGARLY awaited beta of a game we all want to own to begin, it's so close now guys and girls like on your finger tips. just give them a lil extra time =]

Try to update the game once you got the beta…it goes terribly slow aswell…only a few kbps while i can download 3 gig in a mather of minutes.

yeah unfortunaly all servers are down or congested so all you can do is d/l the client for now i did manage to install the first 2 patches but then 6 mor showed and it just stood still after that. looks like we just have to wait a lil longer

The reason (probably) why we keep getting server errors and such is that they are installing more hardware servers so they can handle all the people rushing in.

You all are raging at how unprepared they were but think about it from a business standpoint: if they had bought and set up hundreds of servers and hired thousands of people to run them…and hardly anyone signed up they just lost millions of dollars.

This is how it works in the real world, no beta has EVER gone smoothly within the first couple of days and you’re mistaken to think otherwise.

So just be patient, don’t spam the request button, and stop saying you’re thinking about not playing we all know you’re gonna buy it and play for a while.

I've been trying to get a key since last night and have had zero luck. I just got to say CHILL THE HELL OUT! At some point this is all going to get fixed and everyone that wants in will get in. How hard is it for you retards out there to understand that all this is part of the beta. how do you expect them to know what they are going to need as far as servers and the sort if they do not get an acurrate assesment of the load that comes in. And to the comment about SE not knowing how to run an MMO properly,, YOU ARE A RETARD!!!! Seriously, FFXI is a better game than wow could ever be and if you ever actually played both you would know this. SE knows what they are doing when it comes to MMO.

Yes it is frustrating not being able to get in to OPEN BETA, but that should have no bearing on if you are going to play the game or not, if you are a true fan of the series, you know you gonna go out an get it

A heads-up for European users, the email I was sent had a link to the North American dev site, which is why I couldn't log in. For EU users, try dev-eu.ffxiv.com, worked first time for me, just entered my details and logged in. Hope this helps!

When I try to run the setup program, it tells me I do not have enough space on my drive (which I don't on my C drive. I have 300 gigs free on my E drive though.) WHen I move the setup program to my E drive and run it from there, it says I do not have the correct windows vista service packs. Im running windows 7 not vista and i have all the service packs, just windows is installed on my C drive.

I got a beta key early today, but my problem comes when I go to the beta site. I try to log in to the site and it says invalid name. I'm entering my SE info so I don't know wth is going on there. I downloaded the beta program from the same site and when I try to launch it from my desktop it says windows identified a problem and closes out ………

I tried for SEVEN AND A HALF HOURS to get the dang beta key – now that I have it I'm not sure I want it. I'm extremely disappointed in the INSANE lag. It makes battle and even just talking to NPCs crazy difficult. I've been looking forward to this game for over 2 years but, seriously, if they don't fix this crap soon I'm going to have to ditch my plans to buy the game. Which will make me sadder than I care to say, I played FFXI for three years and have been so looking forward to FFXIV for years! But, this whole thing is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. >.<

You have to go to your square-enix account management system and enter the beta key code there to activate the beta account.

Not sure you guys realise this but it is a beta.. Most of the lag is probably threshold server traffic which helps SE know what hardware they will need for the full release.. I wish there weren't all these whiny pricks telling SE what to do when they are letting us play their release for FREE before it is released. You guys that are complaining. I hope your realize that open beta isn't like puchasing the game. The whole point of SE even inviting you guys to play this game in "Open Beta" before its actual release is to primarily test server stability. If the registration codes are being temperarily suspended it's not due to the fact that SE is being overloaded with requests. It's because they choose to monitor everything, and are only letting a set number of people join open beta every so often. Just a little food for thought for those that have never alpha or beta tested anything before.

Now who in england or the eu can tell me what's wrong with that email address? that's right… the dev-na part. If i'm an eu customer why would my account be registered to this site? kina explains why i wasn't being accepted on the login screen. simply change it to https://dev-eu.ffxiv.com/ and login again, should work fine, i dunno if other continents or areas are getting the wrong web address, or if it was just me… but that solved it for me.

Anyone know how to fix the problem where you turn on FF XIV and the login screen is cut off, so you can't see where you log in. Hence, you can't log in.
