PSGroove: New Jailbreak for PS3 – Homebrew coming soon?

By Alan Ng - Sep 1, 2010

We have some breaking news to deliver to PS3 owners now, as we can confirm that a second PS3 jailbreak method has been released for the Sony PS3. It is called ‘PSGroove’ and is the first open source jailbreak solution for the console.

As reported from VG247, PSGroove has been created by well know developer Mathieulh and a group of other devs. PSGroove is available in downloadable form, then the files downloaded can be transferred over to a USB dev key – which are not too hard to get hold off – and much cheaper as well than the PSJailbreak USB device.

VG247 haven’t put up the download links for obvious reasons, but you can read a full report on PSGroove, over at Exophase here. If developers can come up with some useful and LEGAL third-party homebrew applications, then I don’t see the harm in this.

What are your initial thoughts on this? Do you think this is getting out of hand, or do you support the whole PS3 jailbreaking idea?

pfft you all that think we should pay hulu 9.99 a month to hulu for what we get on our pc.
tell me why we should not jailbreak our ps3's. ABC tv shows on our ps3's are soon to be pay to watch, while they are free on pc. WHY? cause Sony has a lock on the system. Jail break the browser first. And do not tell me it is out of Sony's hands. It is not..

Sony will nickle and dime every one to screw us out of free content. Hulu and Sony are screwing every one that is a sucker paying for a FREE HULU. ABC soon to follow.

basicly put any web tv you can watch on a pc should be watch on a ps3.

    Legal legit apps for ps3.
a fully functional web browser. to start with with.

I could care less about playing backups with the other ps jailbreak, with homebrew, that means emulators, custom applications, and other things. If it's possible and the code could be ported to the psp too, that would be sick. I Doubt if it went that route, sony would have to care much.

As cool as this may sound, this could come as a big problem. Because recently, we already that PS3 USB hack before, then this one. Certainly, Sony is not blind — and if they get pissed off. All of these hacks would be gone, with just one 'major patch'.

give me a native PS3 media play with decent codec support! PS3 media server is great and all but the PS3 can and should be able to play any file you want it to. Not some select few that Sony have vested interests in.
