New scam Hits Facebook & Twitter: Free iPads offered

It seems that not a day goes by without some sort of online scam, especially concerning social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. Today both of those sites have been the victim of a scam offering users a free iPad.

Stan Schroeder of Mashable.com is reporting that if you see a message on one of the sites offering a free iPad one of your friends has already fallen victim to the scam. The scam spreads through accounts that have been hacked.

Twitter put on their security account a message reading: “If you’ve received a message promising you a new iPad, not only is there no iPad, but also your friends have been hacked.” They have also promised to send out new passwords to hacked users.

The scam has only hit a small number of Facebook users who got the message: “u have to check out this website its glitchin right now and sending out iPads to everyone for free!” With this type of scam the message normally has a link to try and get users to enter personal information. If you have received one of these messages you should change your password straight away.
