New iPod Touch 4G: Your Ideal Camera Resolution

By Updated on

With the Apple Media Event coming in just over a weeks time and the exciting prospect of the new iPod Touch 4G, we take a look at what will undoubtedly be one of the prime features of the device — the rumored dual cameras and Retina Display.

Infact, to back up our arguement, a recent poll at T3 suggested that 27% of voters wanted a good rear facing camera with 23% of you voting for Apple’s Retina Display.

You might remember seeing some supposed images of a leaked iPod Touch 4G case that had a space where a camera might go, so I think it is safe to say that the next gen Touch would be coming with one.

One thing we are not yet sure on is the resolution. Most smartphones come well equipped in the camera department, giving us around 8-megapixels.

I highly doubt that the Touch will come with anything higher than the iPhone 4′s 5-megapixel camera, and definitely not the 12-megapixel camera on the Nokia N8.

So, with the iPod Touch 4G almost certain to come with the camera feature, is this enough to pursuade you to upgrade? What would your ideal resolution be?

I have a 1st generation IPod Touch so I'll probably upgrade. The cameras (I hope there are two) and the new OS (I trust it will now multitask) are enough reason. The new display is just icing on the cake. I'd sure like to see Flash so it would handle the web a little better but that isn't a deal killer. GPS would sure be nice, though.

You're asking for too much, too fast. And it's going to be a very long time before Apple products see Flash on them.

This is my personal priority feature list for the new ipod touch 4g,
    HIGH PRIORITY
    1) Rear facing camera (at least 3.2 megapixels with 480p HQ video recording)
    2) Gyroscope+improved accelerometer
    3) Retina Display (if included will need apple's A4 processor and 512mb RAM)
    MEDIUM PRIORITY
    4) FaceTime front facing camera
    5) Improved battery life
    6) Built in mic
    7) Bluetooth 2.0 with file transfer support
    8) Rear camera with flash
    PRIORITY
    9) New Design
    10) 802.11n wi-fi
    11) Built in GPS
    12) 128GB model
    13) Infrared port

All (or most) of this for
    16GB <$250
    32GB <$350
    64GB <$430
    128GB? <$500

Feel free to add to this list if needed

Every Apple-related article there's always some clown trying to take a poke at Apple about lack of "Flash." Please try to get over it; Apple has moved into the future by leaps and bounds over any competition in all its products. If Flash was gong to be part of that story, it would've been. If you want to invest in some wannabe, go ahead–nobody's stopping you.

Yep Apple have moved into future with something that the rest of the world will take another few years to catchup. Till then better to have Flash rather then the cross on my browser.

i would just be good with the cameras+ better accelerometer

  • Guru

I just want the cameras and a sub $200 model.

I would like the Retina Display over anything else. Apple's A4 proc and 512 mb of RAM would be needed to make that run smoothly.

  • OSSS

it's got a 0.69 Mega Pixel Rear Camera, but for some reason shoots clear video. Weird

Hopefully, that front-facing cam is going to be usable for Skype as well. Anyway, if you already have the iPhone 4 then you don't have to get this one. iPod Touch 4 Unbiased Look
