PS3 Jailbreak: Dealers Send Out Warning Email To PS Jailbreak Customers

By Jamie Pert - Aug 24, 2010

PS3 owners who have recently ordered PS Jailbreak have been sent a letter of warning from the dealers suggesting that they recommend staying on firmware v3.41 until further notice — otherwise their warranty would be voided and maybe even banned.

The news comes as Sony have been made widely aware of the hack that allows homebrew applications and the ability to play games stored on users hard drives.

Talk of a new firmware from Sony has already suggested that they would implement a fix that would disable the USB device altogether, and could also potentially ban users who are using it when they update.

But PS Jailbreak do not want to go down easily as the dealers have emailed customers who have purchased the USB device that states : –

“While the PS Jailbreak team have told us it should be possible to support future firmware versions on the PS3, it’s is not guaranteed, they will need to access any newer firmware’s than 3.41 and if needed release an update for the PS Jailbreak to support the newer firmware’s.”

So who knows what is going to happen. From what I can gather, PS Jailbreak are ready to take Sony on at their own game.

Although I don’t recommend the device, as it is technically illegal, customers who already have the jailbreaking device are urged to check the PS Jailbreak website for compatibility updates and only update when it is safe to do so.

If you already have one on pre-order, I would suggest that you reconsider your options. This could get a little messy.

to all haters, please shut up til you understand what jailbreak term means! Jailbreak is not only designed for piracy, it allows people to access fully the hardware to do many things such as doing scientific research, search on Google for Cell Linux cluster. And to me jailbreaking is fair, check this article on jailbreaking for iphone is fair (http://www.pcworld.com/article/201892/us_government_iphone_jailbreaking_is_fair_use.html). And then again, you PS3 kids owner shut up, listen before you open your F___KIN mouth.

Wohooo finally a jailbreak… its worth every pennnyyyy lol…to all the haterz – don't buy it n shut up – u can pay £40 for a crappy game u play twice… lol

Simple answer – make games cheaper – more ppl will rather buy than hack…

Well, illegal or not aside. I think that we invest a lot of money in our games. I don't own a single piece of pirated software, nor will I ever, as the games get better the more they are bought… But being able to install games I OWN to my PS3 HDD is something I Have wanted to do since the days of my old Xbox! Not to mention the cool media center and other homebrew / indie software that can now be created and released. It's exactly what the PS3 needs… some indie development and more functionality. Just to be able to install linux again is amazing. My friend got his PS Jailbreak from http://www.neoconsole.com/catalog/ps-jailbreak.ht… and it works just as the site says it would. Installed some games, they install pretty fast depending on the game… and I have to say, load times are almost non-existent now. Drakes Fortune was a load time hog, and it goes from level to level in about a second…

You won't need to stay on 3.41 in the future as they would release newer patches for the updates just look at the PSP!!! New games come with updates for the system to stop you playing the latest ones with jailbreak SO they release a new Jailbreak patch.
So yeah GT5, Killzone3, Uncharted3 & everything else will be usable, maybe not straight away but it doesn't take them long.
And as for online play most people that would jailbreak there system will be running 2 or more consoles, so you would have one hacked for offline play plus games you wouldn't usually buy & a 'legit' system for online with selected purchases (Eg/ Modern warefare 2.)Now not that i'm saying its the right thing to do but i can't afford to go out & buy every game i want OR risk £40 on a title that might be below par or not like so this would be an option.

    LOL, stay on Firmware 3,41

No GT5 for you then, or Killzone3, or Uncharted3, or DeadSpace or anything else that's coming in the futre.

These games will force you to install newer firmware (from the disc) before you play… That's if your console has not already been banned…

You would have to be a total idiot to actually use one of these.

You morone the jailbreak i udatable too… I didn't know that playing for free was bad???!!!!

  • Sony Corp

Sony have done well with the PS3 to keep it piracy free – look at the firmware upgrade to remove Linux when an exploit was found.

I think given the recent Nintendo vs mod card sellers lawsuit being successful will pave the way for Manufacturers close down these jailbreak makers.

Hopefully a firmware will be out soon to stop all this nonsense, I see Sony working with big game makers to bring out game updates next that will be required to play any game (online) – no online; what's the point?

    • Sony Corp

It was when Sony removed a feature (Linux Install) that allowed this exploit to work.

The only way they can stop it now is if they remove the USB sockets on futures models and disable them on current models. That wouldn’t surprise me either, they’ve already removed USB sockets, card readers, PS2 compatibility and Linux!

Sony, ban all jailbreak users!!!!! We dont need them in PSN

  • triz

technically, It's not the.device that's illegal, but how it may be used. it can do things besides piracy.
