Apple iPhone 5: Contactless Payment Expected

By Jamie Pert - Aug 19, 2010

We recently heard that Apple hired an expert in near field communication, now rumors are circulating suggesting that the next iPhone could feature contactless payment functionality.

For those of you who don’t know near field communication (NFC) is the technology which allows contactless payments to be made, therefore it seems extremely likely that Apple are looking to add this functionality to one of their upcoming devices.

The only Apple device which people carry around with them wherever they go is the iPhone, therefore it only seems natural that the hiring of the NFC expert means that a future iPhone will feature some sort of contactless payment, especially as Nokia has previously stated that their 2011 smartphones will all support this tecnology.

Many experts aren’t convinced by the idea, they see it as another way for fraudsters to get their hands on your money, which is obviously a major concern in this day and age.
