Dell Streak: Next Update will be Android 2.2 Froyo

By Updated on

We have some more details on the Dell Streak smartphone/tablet device now, as it has been reported that Dell are planning to upgrade the device straight to Android 2.2 Froyo, skipping the update to Android 2.1 Eclair.

If you didn’t already know, the Dell Streak currently ships with Android 1.6, meaning that the device is starved of a few features which are now present on devices such as the Motorola Droid 2 and HTC EVO.

As Engadget reports, the Dell Streak is now available to buy, either on contract with AT&T, or unlocked for $549 – although the Streak will still be SIM-locked to AT&T.

For those of you who already have one, this is good news as Froyo may come sooner than you think. Let us know your thoughts on this.

well waiting for 2.2 very badly.
1.6 seems like there something missing in my tablet. so hopefully 2.2 will fill up all the gaps.

    Don't tease, if you can't please…soon….

I couldn’t wait for an OTA upgrade so installed the leaked 2.1 ROM. The version that ships with the Streak makes the handset borderline useless and a real displeasure to use. I was on the verge of returning the unit, but 2.1 has redeemed my user experience.

How did you install the 2.1….

2.1 update for the streak is terrible, sure you get amazing features, but it's messed up and not worth installing, better waiting for the official 2.2 release

    When

    Will it be updated

Do not like Streak.. After over 4 hours on phone with tech service can not load Dell PC Suite. They thought it was a glitch in the Streak, sent new phone and same problem. Sold as phone/tablet, in no way is the Streak a tablet. May return….
