Google Event August 12: Android 2.0 and Voice Search

Google today got some press people together to give them some news on its Android operating system. In one of their offices in San Francisco, Google’s Director of Product Management for Mobile – Hugo Barra – took the stage to discuss the evolution of mobile computing capabilities.

Jason Kincaid of Techcrunch.com is reporting that Barra said that one out of four queries on Android 2.0 devices in the US are now being made using voice search. Barra said that even Google was surprised by this figure. This news shows that Google’s investment in Voice Search is starting to reap rewards.

Barra said that there is a “significant difference” in how many queries where from the Google voice search app on the iPhone, but he didn’t go in to how many less the iPhone app receives. Also discussed were some of the future possible mobile devices. A chart showed how smartphones today are trailing ten years behind PCs in terms of raw power.
