Honda Recall Rollaway Danger: Similar recalls are likely

It came to our attention yesterday that Honda issued a recall on three of their vehicles – the Accord, Civic and Element. There are 383,000 cars affected by this recall, 197,000, 117,000 and 69,000 respectively, but only those made between 2003 and 2004.

Jonathan Welsh from WSJ explains that although this issue with the interlock system has only affected three Honda models, similar recalls could be likely. Welsh believes that this could become an “Industry-Wide Problem,” because most vehicles on the market use the same sort of system.

This latest recall as we know can cause a rollaway problem if you do not put the vehicle in park. Normally you cannot take your ignition key out unless it is in park – we often forget to so this, so this safety feature is very important. However, as the interlock system is faulty on these vehicles, you can remove the key with the car in neutral and walk away.

Now that this issue has been identified in three Honda vehicles, we now wonder if Toyota and other carmakers will be looking at their mechanisms? Do you think that this recall could become much bigger than it already is?
