Motorola Droid 2 Release Date: Verizon August 12?

By Updated on

Verizon certainly has a few nice phones in its arsenal now, but we still await the release of the Motorola Droid 2. Until now we only knew that it would be some time in August, but it looks as though we have a release date, August 12 – is this not the same day that RIM release the BlackBerry Torch.

If we are to believe this rumor, then AT&T and Verizon will be dueling each other yet again – question is, who will win? I am not a betting man, but if I were I would out my money on Verizon, as the first Droid proved very popular.

Techtree News Staff reported the rumored release date, after they spotted an internal Verizon slide. Once we know more we will keep you updated. The Droid 2 is the successor to the original Droid handset by Motorola and was the most popular Android smartphone to date.

The Droid 2 is rumored to offer a 3-7-inch screen – so smaller than the Droid X – and will come with Android 2.1, with an update to 2.2 Froyo coming later this year. Which of the two would you choose, Droid 2 or BlackBerry Storm?

It is 100% confirmed that the droid 2 will launch with froyo. No update to wait for.

    what does "froyo" mean?
How does the HTC incredible compare to the Motorola Droid/droid 2 or X?

to tse: "froyo" (short for frozen yogurt) is the next android version (2.2). Droid X is a little better than the incredible and larger (a little too large I think), but Droid 2 will have a physical keyboard and have specs close to the Incredible.

Actually, froyo is the past. Gingerbread (Android 3.0) Is Coming Soon! http://2su.de/ku8

Froyo is android software 2.2, 2.1 was eclair. They’re going alphabetical deserts if you get what I’m saying. Between the incredible and the droids I’d recommend the droids. My contract is up aug. 12 so I’m stuck between the x or 2.

I have Droid X but still w/in my 30days. I'm considering returning the X so I can get the droid 2. I guess I'm getting old and prefer a keyboard lol

Yep. Probably, on the 12th, it would be the R2-D2 pre-sale release but the official one would be on the 25th.Droid 2 Launch Impressions

At the same time as I like a bodily keyboard, after dealing with the Samsung Captivate for about quarter-hour, it’s hard to head back. Presently I am debating whether or not to go to Verizon for the Droid X, move to Sprint for the EVO, or stick with AT&T for the Captivate…decisions, decisions.
