HTC Wildfire Gets Android 2.2 FroYo Update

By Updated on

The HTC Wildfire has, well, spread like Wildfire since its release date and is still currently one of the most sought after smartphones on the market. Many of you might even see it being just as good as the HTC Desire, just with a lower spec sheet.

But in terms of functionality, the Wildfire delivers. Even in the social networking department where it comes with a few extra social networking features that are exclusive to the device.

One of the reasons being why this phone is still head and shoulders over the rest is its price. The HTC Desire, which in terms of specs and popularity is still ahead of the Wildfire, but is aimed at the higher end of users in terms of smartphone coolness.

With all this in mind, it’s good to see that HTC and Google have decided to give the Wildfire the 2.2 Froyo Android update, which should have already hit you. If not, you will just have to wait until your carrier says they will make the update available to you.

Although we have touched on the subject before, Froyo will increase the speed and performance of the Android OS aswell as providing new features and support for new content such as Flash.

    http://heavenlyandroid.com/2010/12/20/froyo-2-2-u

  • Devang

This is fake news, as I bought my Wildfire early this month (Dec 10) and still no Froyo for it.

  • Luks

its 14th Dec. No froyo 2.2 on my Wildfire :(

    • ortasan

I'm thinking of buyng the wildfire, how is the phone working? Are you happy with it, even without the update? Thanks

      • Luks

The phone itself is great.. Works fine and everything… The bad thing is only the Low res Screen and Slow CPU… If u have the finances take HTC Desire… If u dont have the finances like me take Wildfire… Im sure u will be more than setisfied with it if u r not too demanding when it comes to phones πŸ˜‰

  • primaryparper

I just spoke to 3 and apparently the Wildfire 2.2 Froyo is due on the 14th Dec, fingers x'd.

come on people when is froyo comeing for htc wildfire

  • htcwildfireheaven

I believe that we are being led a merry dance over this 2.2 update malarkey. I have a
HTC Wildfire, based in the UK, and am totally unsure whether I will be getting the update any time soon, if at all. It is all very cloak and dagger and to be honest I haven't a clue what to think. I emailed HTC myself last night and this morning got the standard response that they didn't know when or if this will be happening for the Wildfire. I have decided to lobby HTC and have published a poll on my blog in support of this. I would appreciate it if you could vote on my blog at this address as I am determined to get a final answer:

    • Tom

I very much doubt it, that's a hardware thing, not a software thing

  • jk123

it says on htc website list of all htc phones ready for 2.2 update, wldfire isnt on there yet, but most products are, my guess is just wait

  • nick

I need update to froyo 2.2 htc wildfire ……wen???? I am From Roumania
    Thx…..

  • lance

they better had its a pretty recent release

  • Kalle

I finally got a conformation mail from HTC that there will be NO android 2.2 update for wildfire.

I'm just about to ditch HTC !

    • Kent

Let's just hope that HTC changes their mind. I am about to get my Wildfire in a few days, and I really hope to get the Froyo update some time soon. But well… Maybe I should not be too hopeful.

    • James Rave

I find it hard to believe that HTC would either confirm or deny an update for the Wildfire to a single consumer when they haven't made an official announcement.

to this day they still wont confirm or deny an update to 2.1 for the Tattoo, which we all know is just not going to happen

What did the "confirmation" say … did they say "there will not be an update for your device"

      I would seriously doubt it

    • DK1

In China wildfire is runnig froyo, so hopefully it is just a matter of time

    • Frodyo

There is already 2.2 for wildfire in asia.
      So you were wrong…

      • wildfire&desire

        not in Malaysia yet.

  • Kalle

Just asked them via e-mail if there really will be an update to android 2.2 for wildfire. This is their answer.

"Thank you for contacting HTC Europe. Currently some of the phones in our Android line up will receive an upgrade, but the schedule for your phone has not yet been released yet. If your phone receives an upgrade, we will notify you via our website and on various social media networks including Twitter and Facebook. I trust this resolves your query."

This answer does not resolves my query.

"if your phone receives an upgrade, we will notify you via our website and on various social media networks including Twitter and Facebook".

How hard can it be to give a straight answer on my question?

  • Chuckles

Hmm, my son's Wildfire just indicated an OTA update, we did the update & he now has…Android 2.1 Update 1. (?) Odd eh? This is on a T Mob Wildfire so with their record the phone will have been lost / bust / replaced by the time the Froyo update comes. Love showing him my Desire with the 2.2 on though… Mwahahahahaha πŸ˜‰

  • http://twitter.com/flashsid @flashsid

The update is not released yet not released yet.

  • Mememe

I contacted HTC about this today. "We don't have any information" is all they told me. Their response was quick, which I am impressed by; the lack of information given was bad, which less than impresses me…

  • David

The article's title is a little misleading. The intention by HTC to update the Wildfire to Android 2.2 (FroYo) has been confirmed, but that actual update hasn't been released yet. Notice the lack of release date in the story.

    • Asby

      A little misleading?
"it’s good to see that HTC and Google have decided to give the Wildfire the 2.2 Froyo Android update, which should have already hit you."

It shouldn't have already hit you, because it doesn't exist yet.
That's not misleading, that's factually incorrect.

    • steven

hi so wil the htc wildfire will be updated to android 2.2??

  • http://www.facebook.com/david.steadson David Steadson

I have an unlocked wildfire (purchased new that way) and still no Froyo :(

  • http://www.htcwildfireforum.com wildfire owner

I am a ‘quickly-to-be’ htc wildfire consumer from Kenya. I have been doing some analysis on this phone and i have discovered it to be the very best price range-smartphone.I’m now able to order it, unlocked clearly, since it hasn’t yet started being offerd in my country. The only huddle but to be falt with is findinga reputable firm keen to export abroad, especially to Africa. So far the only website i’ve found is expansys.co.uk.

I want an update.. how come it's not there yet???
I am on three but bought my wildfire from an internet shop and it's unlocked. So I repeat the question of papapatat.. how do I get the update?

    • Amandeep Singh

Just go to Menu->Settings->About Phone->System Software Updates->Check now.
Once the update is made available, you'll be able to download it. It should be about 90 Mb (so I've been told), so make sure you are connected to a monthly data-plan based wireless network before beginning the update to avoid additional costs.

  • papapatat

"[…]you will just have to wait until your carrier says they will make the update available to you"
Mine is an unlocked WildFire with a random sim card. How will my device update?

    • no one really

i think they release that(for unlocked phones) version of the update along with the carrier based ones. unlocked phones usually get it first. if you want google for you update but i don't really suggest it. see if the phone has a search for updates thing in the settings
