Porsche 918 Spyder Concept: 78 MPG Hybrid Official

By Updated on

If you were to mention Porsche and 78 miles per gallon in the same sentence, you would probably get laughed at, however Porsche has announced that they are currently developing a vehicle capable of this impressive fuel economy.

This vehicle is called the Porsche 918 Spyder, Porsche previously stated that if 1,000 people showed interest they would begin production, it appears as if this threshold has now been surpassed.

The 918 Sypder is a hybrid vehicle, meaning it uses both gasoline and electric, it has a 16 mile all-electric range, however petrolheads should still be impressed with its 3.4-liter V-8 engine. This engine combined with its all-wheel-drive drivetrain allows it to reach a top speed of 198 miles per hour and should take just 3.2-seconds to reach 60mph.

As you would expect all this does not come cheaply, no exact price is known, however rumors point to around $600,000.

Do you think the Porsche 918 Spyder will pave the way for future Porsche cars?
