A week ago the Verizon Wireless began offering the Motorola Droid X, for some people this is the first Android smartphone they have ever used, therefore we thought you would appreciate some applications recommendations.

Luckily PCWorld recently published a very useful article titled “Verizon’s Droid X: 12 Apps to Get You Started”, this article is pretty self-explanatory and should help you get the most out of your Droid X.

The 12 apps they talk about are Google Goggles, ShopSavvy, WaveSecure, MyBackup Pro, Google Sky Map, DoubleTwist, Astro File Manager, Pandora, Places Directory, Car Locater, Gesture Search and finally Metal Detector. We will talk about some of these apps briefly, however we recommend checking out PCWorld’s article for full details.

Google Goggles is becoming a very popular app for Android smartphones, it is free and allows you to take a photo of pretty much anything and then search it, it will then recognize logos, artwork, businesses, products and landmarks.

Shop Savvy is a simple concept, however very useful, it allows you scan a barcode and then see how much other stores (in your area or online) sell it for.

WaveSecure is a great app for you security conscious Droid X owners out there, if your smartphone is lost or stolen you can access Wave Secure’s web site and activate your phone’s GPS system, other functionality allows you to remotely wipe all personal data. Finally you can also remotely lock the phone down remotely.

MyBackup Pro is pretty self-explanatory, it costs $4.99 and allows you to backup pretty much everything on your phone to SD card or secure online servers. If your handset is lost, stolen or damaged you can restore all personal data to a new handset quickly and easily.
