Skype knew that they had to work hard in order to offer an update to its app for iOS 4, with one of the benefits being background VoIP for the iPhone 4 and 3GS model. However, that is not the only update, there are a number of other new features that help to support this latest mobile OS.
Before we have a closer look we thought you would like to know that Skype will not be charging for making calls over 3G like was originally suggested. Maybe they decided to go back on this for fear of losing out to other VoIP services.
So we know that the new Skype app comes with multitasking API, and things have also been updated in the design to make full use of the retina display on the iPhone 4. If you had the app open and then go onto another app or feature, Skype will pop up letting you know that you have an incoming call or message.
It does not matter if you are on the lock screen, Ross Miller from Engadget tells us that Skype will still pop up informing you that someone is trying to contact you. Things are not all good though, video chat is still not available – so will have to wait until the next update.
