We have some good news those of you with Samsung Galaxy S handsets, as we have an update for you regarding the availability of the eagerly anticipated Android 2.2 Froyo update.

As reported from Phandroid, recent rumors are suggesting that the Froyo update will be available on the handset sometime in September. Apparently, a Samsung rep from France has let the details slip about a planned update in September – but we have no proof of it yet.

Phandroid point out the important note that the update may just be for France Galaxy S handsets only, but we’re sure the update will be available for everyone and not locked to one region.

What are your thoughts on this? Are you waiting for 2.2 Froyo?

  • Doktah Jay

Still waiting for the 2.2 for the Droid!!!!!!!!!!! Everyone else gets it and the flagship phone is still waiting????

  • D

can’t wait for 2.2! Will make the galaxy phones the fastest, surpassing the droid x, iphone 4 and the evo :)

  • Banoz

I think it's a shame that we have to wait this long for this. It's a flagship phone as stated, and Korea gets it in august if I'm not mistaken. I am very happy with my Galaxy S, but it is truly annoying knowing that the phone could be even better with an update that is available for so many other android phones. And what about Gingerbread? I thought the estimation for the release of that was in October/November sometime?

  • Ben

I've got a Samsung Galaxy S and can't wait for the update. It's already a brilliant phone that I think is on par if not better than the iPhone. The Galaxy S can be slow at times so can't wait for the update to see if my phone can be even better!

  • Warren

cant wait, just got my S and if it gets that much better with 2.2 then I will wet myself :)

  • shally

bought mine few days ago , used to dislike everything about samsung phones but boy this is amazing what is really annoying though, the update; i simply dont understand why haven't we got the update yet …The phone's hardware is very well capable of it then whats holding us back I think biggest impede is google here ………

    • Matt

It isn’t google since 2.2 was out before galaxy phones. It would have to be samsung taking their time with the stock ui they are modifying.

      • Ethan

actually it is the touchwiz 3.0 UI that is causing all the problems. i would rather have a fully funktional galaxy s later than a partialy working galaxy s now.

  • Evan

I love my galaxy it’s going to be the mass adoption iclone I reckon -but yeah any thing that can improve the speed

I would love to get my hands on asap

  • juha

Same here. Awesome phone indeed and cant wait till 2.2. This was typed by Galaxy S :D

  • Raim

I think we are waiting for Samsung to port their proprietary apps and gui. Not sure why this has to take so long tho.

  • colin lister

Thanks for the update. Yeah, I am waiting for the android 2.2 and I hope it comes with Adobe Flash!

    • Dennis

Flash mobile 10.1 will be included with Froyo (Android 2.2)

  • spence

got my galaxy s at the weekend and love it. small issue with it giving black screens for a few secs while switching apps. Has been sorted though by phone company doing a full reset of the device, now running smoothly. If froyo makes it even better then yay, bring it on

All carriers should be getting off their butt and getting the FroYo update to all capable phones ASAP! Instead, they are all taking their sweet time and this leads to uncertainty if it will be done at all. Android updates are what drive the sale of the smartphones and all this grandstanding does nothing for consumer confidence. FroYo has been out for some time now so what is the hold up? Set a date for the update and deliver it to your consumers instead of slow bucking. Every carrier should have an information site that clearly outlines these time frames in a definitive manner, stating what phones will be updated and when. Every carrier should have already revealed whether or not they plan to update capable phones to Gingerbread when it's released. It's not good for business to leave everyone in the dark. I am wondering, do these guys have college educations or what??

  • Alan

can anyone tell me where to get the froyo update?

  • Alien

I can't wait for droid 2.2~! I want to be an android.
