Are you on Facebook yet? If you are you’re now one of 500 million members who are part of the social networking site. It has taken only two years for the site’s membership numbers to go up from 100 million to this new total.

Kristin McGrath from USA TODAY is reporting that Facebook users have uploaded 50 billion photos so far, with Einstein and Shakespeare amongst the most quoted people on user’s profiles. An average of 115 million friendships are created a day.

Almost 20 percent of users describe themselves as single on their profile, and 16 percent are married. The site continues to grow and has gained 100 million new users since February alone. Since its birth in 2004 Facebook has grown across the world with 70 percent of members now coming from outside the US. The nearest rival to Facebook is Twitter who currently has around 105 million users.

Randi Zuckerberg who is the sister to founder and CEO – Mark Zuckerberg- said that , “even back when we had one million users, Harry Potter and The Bible were the most popular books,” she says. “500 million later, Harry Potter and the Bible are still there.” During the sites rapid growth this is just one example of the things to stay constant.
