Motorola Droid 2: Star Wars R2-D2 Edition

By Peter Chubb - Jul 20, 2010

The Motorola Droid 2 is not getting as much attention as the Droid X – maybe it has something to do with the fact that it is much smaller and offers less in the way of features and performance. The latest news suggests that the new Android handset will be released on August 12 and that there is to be a Star Wars R2-D2 edition.

However, we have been informed by Chris Ziegler from Engadget that Verizon will increase its marketing efforts come July 23rd, and we can be sure that they will market the hell out of the Sci-Fi franchise theme. The only thing that makes this edition different is an image of the small Droid on the back.

For those who do not know, Motorola had to license the name Droid from Lucasfilm, which was needed when they promoted the very first Android handset last year. We are not certain what gifts Verizon will send to media outlets this year for the launch of the Droid 2 – last year they sent out remote-control Artoos.

Ziegler is uncertain if this limited edition will be launched at the same time as the stock model. If they are both released at the same time, which version will you buy?
