Nokia and RIM were not happy when it seemed like Apple’s CEO, Steve Jobs attacked their smartphones – he did this to show to the world that it is not just the iPhone 4 that has an antenna issue. Jobs said that how come the media has attacked the new iPhone when all these other phones have the same issue?
Nokia responded by saying that they work hard on the design of their handsets and that they do not “prioritize” the design of the phone over certain functions – namely call quality. Chris Ziegler from Engadget points out that Nokia feels that Apple wants to be able to have the best of both worlds – we all know that this is not possible.
If you thought that Nokia’s response was tough, then wait until you hear what two RIM executives had to say on the issue. Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie felt that Apple made things personal by demonstrating that the BlackBerry Bold 9700 suffered from a similar antenna problem when held a certain way. They believe that this was a deliberate attempt to distort the truth to deceive the public.
