With all the problems that Apple has with the iPhone 4, you would not have thought that they would have the time to look at a new business opportunity. Apple has now purchased Poly9 who makes Poly9 Globe – meaning that the Mac maker is looking to become a serious rival to Google Earth.
The main difference between the two products is you do not need to download and install Poly9 Globe, which is what you have to do with Google Earth. Companies such as LinkedIn, NORAD and Skype have all used Poly9 in the past – although the system is in need of a revamp.
Apple must see the potential in the system, and is just another process in their plan for world domination. Clint Boulton from eWeek has been doing some digging and it seems that all the signs are there that the company has closed.
Apple was asked about the latest buyout, but as always they had nothing to say. We have to wonder if Apple will still allow the Google Earth app on the iPhone once they make improvements to Poly9 Globe?
