For some time now there have been a few issues with the 2008 model of Apple’s Time Capsule, so much so that they have now made the decision to offer a refund or to repair the faulty backup device. As you may know, this is something that does not happen very often for Apple.
According to a report from Macslice, which we learned via Vlad Savov from Engadget; a number of users have found that their Time Capsule would stop working after 18 months of use. It seems that they would not power up, or if they did then they would just shutdown with no warning.
As you can imagine, this is not a good thing for a backup device to do – meaning that you could no longer trust the Time Capsule to store your valuable data. Those models affected include model numbers XX807XXXXXX – XX814XXXXXX.
If you do own one of these models, then you should make an appointment and head down to your nearest Apple Store or call Apple’s Contact Center. They will then offer to repair the device or replace it with a new model.
