iPhone iOS 4: Jailbreak by Geohot – 4.0.1/4.1 download soon?

By Alan Ng - Jul 13, 2010

It was only yesterday when we informed you that iPhone iOS 4.0.1/4.1 could be delayed as a result of Apple trying to outsmart the jailbreak hackers, but we can now confirm that the iPhone 4 has just been jailbroken by infamous hacker Geohot.

According to this report from BGR, this isn’t the first time that a jailbreak has been successful on the iPhone 4, but it is the first time that Geohot has publicly gone on record to say that he has unlocked the device completely.

However, just like previous jailbreak methods, Geohot isn’t making this one available for download at the moment, and also points out that users shouldn’t pester him for a release date.

What will Apple think of this? It is safe to say that they know about it, so will they delay releasing 4.0.1 or 4.1 further, or just patch up the phone asap? Let us know your thoughts on this.

Geo is not telling the whole story. He's got nothing.

  • I think Majority of Apple iPHone users are JB/unlocked users.. right. then why Apple is woryying about JB/unlocking ? they should be happy as people are going crazy once they started using it after the JB/unlock and suggesting everyone to go for iPhone.. this way apple is getting more benefits.. anyways, there will be some work always.. that is for Sure.. if Dev team is lazy to develop one more JB/unlock tool for iOS 4.0.1.. i think we should wait till apple release it's updated firmware that is iOS 4.0.1/4.1

It's roughly 10% of iPhone owners who jailbreak. Relatively small, really.

I think apple is waiting at least 30 days from the iphone4 launch date to release 4.01 because if it doesn’t fix reception issues you can’t return the phone without canceling your contract

      That's a really good point.

    JailBREAK not JailBRAKE. Come on.

  • Megaiphone

Oh yea an isn’t it jailBREAK? Lol dude where did you go to school?

  • Megaiphone

Hell yea we should all sue apple for being so up tight about their app store and not allowing users to mod stuff they already paid for… I mean who here wants to be normal and stereotypical of apple? Hack ur shit!

I think it is Bullshit. Apple shouldn't care that the consumer is able to jailbreak and unlock the device because they are still selling the product. In addition, I think the jailbreakers should not wait, because once the new firmware comes out, I'm sure they will be able to find a hole it as well. So, it is useless waiting and once 4.0.1 comes out because 4.0.2 will come out soon after to patch up the holes that the jailbreakers found.
