BMW Z4 and Mazda3: Recall Possibility

By Updated on

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received 140 complaints due to a power steering failure, and as a result is now investigating the BMW Z4 and the Mazda3. If the NHTSA finds anything wrong with these vehicles then this could lead to 342,000 models being recalled

The agency has been taking a more hands-on approach when it comes to safety fears with vehicles – something that was sparked off by the 8 million Toyota recalls. It seems as if they do not ever want things to get out of hand, as they have done for the Japanese automaker.

Angela Greiling Keane from BuisinessWeek has been talking to senior editor at Edmunds.com, Bill Visnic, where he said, “Nobody’s hanging around waiting on these things.“ We just wish that something like this was done a long time ago – but we suppose better late than never.

There have been reports of three crashes for the 2007-2009 Mazda3, and just one report for the 2003-2005 BMW Z4 – although both models has received 140 complaints between them. We will keep you informed once we know more.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration can use my Z4 to test the steering fault. I definitely have this going on when it's warm out, and it is a serious safety issue!

Same as zed85, little bit of warm weather or prolonged travel and mine is the same

Power steering on our 2008 Mazda 3 went out yesterday causing my son to jump a curb because he couldn't straighten the car our. Extensive damage to the front right tire and wheel well, maybe more…will Mazda take responsibility?
