Research In Motion (RIM) who is the makers of BlackBerry devices have a tough job ahead and if they have any hope of a secure future, then they need to start releases “wow” devices. The smartphone market is a tough one, with Apple, HTC, Motorola, Samsung and Nokia all producing devices that has that so-called wow factor.
According to Luann LaSalle from the Canadian Press – who has written a piece on TheChronicleHerald – RIM is in trouble in staying relevant in the smartphone market. We know how true this is, it is no secret that the future is touchscreen, and Research In Motion’s first two offerings have not been that good.
RIMM shares have also proven this, with a poor showing on Friday. Shares fell by 10 percent to $6.23. However, we should not read too much into this, as Apple shares also fell on Friday. But we have to remember that this could have been the result of fears of an iPhone 4 recall, which we discussed in a recent post.
Sascha Segan from PC Mag was the writer who suggested that RIM needs a phone that has that wow factor. However, there have been rumors that the Canadian company is to launch a new touchscreen slider to take the fight to Apple along with Google who is gaining huge popularity in the smartphone OS market.
What do you think RIM needs to do?
