Mercedes-Benz SLS E-Cell: Electric prototype preview

Mercedes-Benz announced to the world the SLS AMG, not long after that they offered details that they were in the process of developing a battery electric version as well. Mercedes now has a drivable SLS E-Cell prototype of this gull-wing supercar for you to feast your eyes on – and boy does it look awesome in yellow.
Sam Abuelsamid from Autoblog learned from Automobile that the car will be powered by four – yes four electric motors. There will be two at each axel driving all four wheels to make certain that enough power is transferred to the ground – this is what makes the SLS E-Cell achieve its insane speeds.

All four motors revs up to 12,000rpm and helps to produce 526 horsepower, the end result is a 0 to 60mph time of just four seconds. We are not certain of the top speed, but we know it will be fast – that’s where the extra down force from the reshaped rear diffuser and extendable front splitter comes in handy.
To electric motors is not the only technical enhancement on the Mercedes-Benz SLS E-Cell; there is even a 10-inch touch screen in the interior. The vehicle is not due to hit the streets until 2013 – such a long time to wait for a sexy looking supercar.
