iOS4 Release Time Confusion

Today is June 21, 2010 and is the day that iPhone 3G and 3GS owners can download and install the new iOS4 update however, Apple has yet to release details as to when the update will be ready for download. As you can imagine this has caused what social media users are calling a release time confusion.

We tried to get to the bottom of this in a recent post and found that last year’s iPhone OS 3.0 update was released at 10.am PDT that would be 6pm GMT. There have been suggestions that iPhone users have already started to receive the update – but this cannot be true.

Looking back at some of our recent comments some readers have been giving conflicting times as to when the update will be ready for us to start playing with the new mobile browser.

Some iPhone owners have said that they were clicking update in iTunes every two minutes, some have been complaining that they would like to update before they go to work – looks like that will not happen.

To keep up-to-date with all things iOS 4 release date, check out the constant Twitter updates on Google.

You can get it if you are a developer. I know of a few people, including myself, who got copies from devs and are using it. I have already jailbroken my version of 4.0 and it looks like most jailbreak apps from cydia will work on 4.0. Just use redsn0w to jailbreak and you should be fine!

This is not cool. The update should have been released hours ago. I wonder why we keep putting up with Apple jerking us around like this

  • Entitled to nothing

I don't understand the entitlement that people feel regarding apple and their products. Like apple is "jerking you around" if they don't release a software update at the exact hour that you want to download it?! They can release the update whenever they freakin want! Did they tell you they would release it at any particular time? No. I'm so sick of hearing this kind of crap.

The update just became available for me. I am downloading it now.

Let me see if I have this right: Apple is releasing a significant FREE update "today", and because it hasn't YET appeared (as of 10:30 am Pacific time), Apple is "…jerking us around". Sheesh.

Problem with the iOS4 is that, the new multitasking won't work with 3G or 3GS, just with new iPhone 4 only. Hopefully, the new OS will be available for iPod Touch as well (in the future)

That's not entirely true. Multitasking works with 3GS.

Hi, it depends on what do you mean with the word multitask. For the record, the multitasking featured during the WWDC event won't be available for 3GS, 3G and 2nd gen iPhones (other source: http://mashable.com/2010/04/08/no-multi-tasking-i… )
