Apple iPhone 5G: HD Radio a confirmed feature?

By Alan Ng - Jun 18, 2010

We have some interesting news to bring you now, as it has been confirmed that Apple has secured a patent which looks at the possibility of using HD Radio features for future devices.

As reported from Apple Insider, the news is pretty good for iPhone or iPod Touch users, as the addition of a HD Radio would allow scan and search features through live radio content – eliminating the need to flip stations yourself.

The new patent from Apple is called “Digital Radio Tagging Using an RF Tuner Accessory,” and the main feature will allow AM and FM radio stations to broastcast digital and analog audio within the same channel.

If you head over to Apple Insider, you’ll be able to see an image of the patent in question. It is worth pointing out that Apple already has a built-in radio on the latest version of the iPod Nano, but are the company planning a major upgrade for their iPhone 5G handset?
