Motorola Droid 2: Release Date and Android 2.2 Froyo Update

We have some exciting details for those of you planning to pick up the Motorola Droid 2 from Verizon this Summer, as it has been rumored that the device will ready for launch this August.
But there is more. BGR has heard from one of their trusted sources that the Droid 2 will be coming with Android 2.2 Froyo upon purchase. They also mention that the device will come equipped with a OMAP3630 processor.
This is just a rumor, but obviously its a pretty major one if it is true. We were fearing that the handset would come with Android 2.1 Eclair instead, so that will be a huge incentive for potential buyers if the news is true.
Maybe it is slightly disppointing that the handset won’t be arriving in July as speculated previously, but we don’t mind waiting an extra month if the handset is rocking Froyo!
