Websites, applications, browsers, and games are always trying to increase the security on their products, and it seems as though social networking website Twitter has found one way to make links more secure by shorting URL’s so they can track shared links through the website, and see where they are being directed to.
How often than not do you receive a link from a friend via the Internet, which is made up of various letters,symbols and numerals that you can’t quite make out. Instantly, you become nervous about what it is you are clicking on, just in case it could be some sort of virus or spyware clone.

Twitter’s aim is to stop this from happening by shortening shared links through it’s website by using their “t.co” service, expected to roll out this summer.
This service will automatically shorten and scan links for content so they can log, and track what links are sent from user to user on the social networking website.
“In addition to a better user experience and increased safety, routing links through this service will eventually contribute to the metrics behind our Promoted Tweets platform and provide an important quality signal for our Resonance algorithm — the way we determine if a Tweet is relevant and interesting to users,” Sean Garrett, vice president of communications at Twitter wrote in a company blog post.
