Coming off the back of an article yesterday, where we mentioned a possible Mortal Kombat movie was in the works titled ‘Rebirth’ – We have just had some rather exciting and official news from Warner who say that they have formally announced the release of a Mortal Kombat title for the PS3 and Xbox 360 sometime in 2011.

Ed Boon, the man behind all the classic Mortal Kombat movies is back on board, alongside NetherRealm Studios who say “this game really is a response to what players have been demanding: mature presentation, reinvented 2D fighting mechanic and the best, most gruesome fatalities ever!”

According to the official press release, the game will feature 1v1 battles, an all new tag team mode plus “the deepest story mode of any fighting game.”

Online play is also coming with the reboot, and Warner are going flat out with the experience by calling it the ”most extensive online experience ever seen in a fighting game.”

More information can be read via the source below who also have a copy of the press release from Warner.

Are you excited? I think that is an understatement.
