New iPhone 3GS Price Cut: $99 and Release June 24

By Updated on

We now know the name, release date and price of the fourth-generation smartphone. During his WWDC 2010 keynote today, Steve Jobs unveiled the new iPhone 4 and that it would be released on June 24. The price will be $199 for the 16GB model and $299 for the 32GB version however, there will be a cheaper 8GB version of the iPhone 3GS – the cost will be just $99.

This is certainly great news and has opened up the biggest selling smartphone to a much larger market. Now we can expect to see more teenagers with the 3GS, who were more than likely, told by their parents that the handset was too dear for them.

There are those who wonder why Apple would want to offer an older version of its handset, but this could certainly help them shift millions more units around the world – although there is one downside to this, they will not get the full features from the iOS 4 upgrade.

Now that we have the iPhone 4 as well as the iPhone 3GS, the 3G will now be retired. More details on this can be found on Evan Selleck’s article from Slash Gear
