Maytag Dishwasher Recall 2010: List of Affected Units

Some particularly worrying news to inform you about now, as it has just been confirmed that MayTag, a company part of Whirlpool Corp. are recalling as many as 1.7 million of their dishwasher units, over potential fire hazard risks.

As reported from Huffington Post, the recall has been announced by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, who has revealed that 12 separate reports of electrical failures in the dishwashers have caused fires or similar damage.

Other dishwashers affected by the recall of include Amana, Jenn-Air, Admiral, Magic Chef, Performa by Maytag and Crosley brand dishwashers with plastic tubs. The CPSC advises consumers who own one of these units to stop using the unit and immediately disconnect the power supply.

If you do own one of the dishwashers listed above, you can contact Maytag to arrange a free in-home repair, or instead choose to receive a rebate of $150 or $250 toward the purchase of a new Maytag dishwasher – in a select range.

    i bought a maytag diswasher in 2008. it is a QuestSeries 300. It has a plastic lining. I would be interested in a home service repair.

      Is this brand/model of dishwasher a lemon? I have had, no kidding, over 10 service calls on it in 3 years. It has had 2 new motors, impellors, door handle, main control computer replaced….on and on….Maytag service guy that comes out knows my whole family and everything, lol.yes, I contacted Maytag and they were just obnoxious and rude, even said a few bad words when I called as a service person and mentioned my problems.My first dishwasher, too…..never again!Carol

    I bought my maytag dishwasher in 2009. It is a Quiet Series 300. It has a plastic lining. I would like to have home repair service.

    The repairman came yesterday to replace the heating element in our Amana dishwasher, which we bought in 2007. However, the pump wouldn't pump the water out of the bottom of the tub and the repairman said we needed a new pump. ABC Warehouse said the water in the bottom of the dishwasher was normal a year or so ago. I don't think it would be wise to take advantage of the $150 rebate on a new model to get more junk!

      Water in the bottom of the dishwasher shouldn't extend beyone the platic filter in the bottom of the dishwasher. Your dishwasher needs a little bit of water to keep the seals from drying out and cracking. That tech probably wanted to make a fast dollar off of you.

    One thing I can say about Maytag is they were'nt forced into recalling these dishwashers, they took responsibility and recalled the units when they realized they had a problem. Unlike some other companies that have defective products and are forced to recall them.

    The issues that led to this 2010 dishwasher recall had to be a large enough concern that Maytag felt that they must address the problem. UNFORTUNATELY, Maytag did NOT plan well enough as to the magnitude of the problem.

    I have a DW that is on the recall list. I saw the on-line story of the recall & contacted Maytag on 4-Jun. The rep confirmed that my DW was on the list & set-up an in-home repair with the next available date being 10-days out (14-Jun).

    That date has come & gone with only one call from the Maytag repair shop to let me know that they are waiting on Maytag to ship the repair parts "next week". It is one month later & nothing, no additional contact from Maytag or their repair facilities unless I initiate it…

    As a very dissatisfied customer… I have to say that Maytag really screwed up on this one!!!

    I called Maytag on June 7th, and was scheduled an appointment for June 15th between 8:00 AM and 5:00PM. After waiting all day with no phone call I called the appliance repair place. I was told he didnt have the parts and he didnt know when they were coming in. On June 30th I called again still no parts. On July12th I called Maytag, they told me there was no longer any problem getting the parts and rescheduled me for July 19th. We'll see. Has anyone actually had the repair done?

      Maytag set up the appt and was there when they said they were going to be and fixed it.

    I bought Maytag dishwasher Quiet Series 300 last year, exactly one year later, the control panel was dead, I had to replace it and the total cost was $341 7 months later, same problem happened as the new control panel is not working now, I called the repair company who said that the warantee on the part is only 90 days. II felt as I was foold by this product, is Maytag 's goal to make money only or to satisfy the customer, I'll make sure all my relative and friends know what they buy before they buy it, they should ask about the quality of the product then buy it, I don't think I will recommend Maytag to any body.

      I had the same repair done a few yrs after I got my DW, cost was about the same. Now it's acting up again :( fills up with water then turns off…I've.wasted more water in the last month!

        I have the same problem! It is so frustrating! It’s like the warranty runs out and boom, it stops working properly. They don’t even have confidence in their product. It's interesting that both panels were faulty. The one that came with the unit and the one new one we had to replace it with. No product can have one problem on the same unit more than once without it being more than a coincidence. Not to mention their customer service is very poor. I will not ever but another one of their products and I plan to let my more of my friends and family know about my experience and that I am not the only one who has had this problem without them fixing the problem.

    Same story, it's been a month of 'no parts'. I contacted Maytag today to say that my local repairman, who Maytage scheduled the repair with, called to say that he would not come today as he is only now working on recall appointments from June 15th (today, my scheduled repair day is July 16th). Maytag can only offer to set me up with another repair service, but no guarantee they will have the parts either. But a 'large shipment of parts has been sent to Canada". That or the 'rebate' program. Why would I buy another Maytag. I paid close to $700 for the unit and they will rebate $150???? I understand the magnitude of the recall, but this is hugely screwed up and inconvenient.

    I'm having a problem reaching the Maytag approved repairman for our area in Alberta. I've been leaving telephone messages since early June. How do I proceed with getting a rebate instead?

    I bought a Maytag dishwasher in 2003 and I will never buy another thing from Maytag. After a few months, it quit getting the dishes clean, and developed all sorts of problems, which the repair guy blamed on my plumbing. There was nothing wrong with my plumbing. At one point, I gave up and just washed my dishes by hand. Since then, I've learned other people have had the same bad experiences. They should take a lesson from GE (another brand that went downhill) and sell to someone who cares about quality.

    I received the recall notice and have ignored it. From the looks of these post's, Im glad I did. I will wait for it to catch on fire then sue them.

    I BOUGHT MAYTAG !!! NEVER AGAIN !!! STOVE,,, FRIDGE,,, DISHWASHER . ALL FROM HOME DEPOT ALL TOGETHER. FIRST THE FRIGE ACTED UP,,, NOW THE DISHWASHER DOES NOT WORK ,,, AND NOW THE STOVE DECIDED IT DOES NOT WANT TO COME ON AND HEAT UP ??? !!! THE BROILER WORKS FINE BUT NOT THE STOVE. GO FIGURE AND OF COURSE THE WARENTY IS UP ON EVERYTHING ,,, I SAY NEVER EVER WILL I BUY MAYTAG AGAIN AND WILL NEVER SHOP AT HOME DEPOT EITHER !!!

    Fire Department showed up at my house for my Quiet Series 300!! No one to help you on the weekend at Maytag. Will have to wait till Monday when they open.

    Recall repair woman showed up and completed the repair as scheduled. Although the fire hazard is resolved, the dishwasher still doesn't work because the control panel failed just after the warranty expired, go figure!! The repair woman said that through their service that part would cost $112 and the service call would be $150!! THIS PRODUCT is terrible, less than 3 years old, rarely used, and a money pit!! We will NEVER purchase ANY Maytag appliance again.

      I have the same exact issue.  Mine is 3-1/2 years old.  The warranty was up at 3 years.  The recall repair man came out and completed the recall repair and low and behold, the control panel does not work.  It is 170.00 for the part and 130.00 tp repair it.  I might as well buy a new one for that and it def. will NOT be a maytag!!!
