Sprint HTC EVO 4G: Video Recording Test – Daylight and Low-Light

By Posted 2 Jun 2010, 10:56

There is no doubt that the HTC EVO 4G is going to impact the smartphone market in many different ways, obviously the main attraction is that it is the first-ever 4G phone, however it’s other specs are also pretty desirable.

The HTC EVO 4G features an 8 megapixel camera which is capable of recording video at 720p, recently IntoMobile tested out the handset’s video recording capabilities, and I must say for a smartphone the results are pretty impressive.

There are two videos embedded at the end of this post, the first of the two shows the handset’s video recording capabilities in daylight conditions, despite the camera being used in extremely bright conditions it manages to avoid glare and shows a pretty good range of colors.

The second of the videos shows the handset’s capabilities in low-light conditions, in this video the only light is provided by computer monitors etc, there are no main lights on, still the video capture is impressive, check out the video quality yourself below.

When watching the videos you have to remember that the Sprint HTC EVO 4G is a smartphone, not a digital camera/camcorder, in my opinion despite video recording being just one of the many functions that the handset offers, the results are pretty impressive. Are you impressed by the HTV EVO 4G’s video recording capabilities?

you say 720p video recording but your youtube links only show 480p…makes it tough to really know what the camera quality is when youre downcoverting (compressing) it

You can tell he's an apple fanboy by the filming of his iphone and the ipad for a hd video test of the evo 4g in low quality!! Why show a video in low quality for a 720hd camera? I'm sick of all these sites sucking up to apple, its disgraceful and dishonest!

I actually own an evo 4g and I like it so far except for its video recording capablities. That alone is a huge disappointment and makes a customer like me appreciate apple creating quality phones. You people must be dillusional if you think it records better video than an iPhone 4. In a multimedia sense, iPhone 4 can’t be touched yet. A little more tweaking and HTC/android will surpass apple in every category. I do have hopes for my new evo however.

I have both the HTC EVO 4G and the iphone4 – Video recording quality in daylight is much better with the iphone4. However, the flash and low light recording is better with the HTC EVO. I'm a fan of both the droid and apple. No longer need to carry a digital camera with me.
