New Amazon Kindle Slim: Does a Sony PS3

By Updated on

Many users of the Amazon Kindle were hoping that the largest online retail giant were to offer a color version of its popular Kindle eReader device, but it seems that they have other ideas. We have just learned from Peter Burrows and Joseph Galante from Bloomberg that Kindle is to go on a diet and will appear as a slimmer version in August – much like Sony did with its PS3 Slim.

As well as being thinner the screen is said to be more responsive along with a sharper more detailed image – but we still wonder where the color version is? It is no secret that Amazon who once had the market to themselves have some tough competition in the way of the Apple iPad, which is now available internationally.

Amazon have yet to offer a color version of the Kindle, but CEO Jeff Bezos said that they are still working on making the Kindle much better for users before than offer a color version, which is said to be a long way off yet.

Currently the Kindle offers an experience much like a newspaper does, the thinner more sharper model will now be more like a book instead. Owners of the current model will know that there is a delay when turning over a page while reading a book – this will now be much faster. That said, Kindle sales are up 3 million on last year – but we have to wonder if those sales figures will begin to fall now the iPad is widely available?
