PS3 will outsell Xbox 360 in 2010 – Analyst

We have an interesting article for you to read now, as an analyst from Strategy Analytics has claimed that the PS3 will outsell the Xbox 360 this year by 3.5M units.

As reported from VG247, David Mercer, principal analyst for the firm spoke in a recent interview with Industry Gamers, on who will end up taking the most sales this year between Sony and Microsoft.

His company expects Sony to achieve around 31 percent of the market share in Q1, with global sales reaching 14 million units. Meanwhile, he expects Microsoft to make 10.5 million and Nintendo 17.5 – putting them on top.

He continued: “The PS3 continues to benefit from the price cut last September. This should help the PS3 maintain growth momentum throughout 2010.”

    It's not really interesting at all, it's common sense.

    The Xbox is on a decline (and not even Natal will save it). The PS3 is on a ramp up.

    Ha! The ps3 has……..Grand turismo lol! Xbox is by far the better console, Halo reach is gonna destroy the ps3 (and Natal will be a hell of a lot better than that move rubbish for the ps. And yes I have a ps3 but for games like uncharted, ( which is amazing) god of war (which was ok) and I am gonna get gt5 (but for me forza is the best) Xbox 360 is superior in everyway and i know it upsets a lot of ps3 faithfulls but its true!

    Marhorn i dont think you relize all the games ps3 is bringing out Do you relize that rockstar north the makers of GTA and RDR are making another Sandbox game right now called agent. the only diffrence with this one is its optimisted for the ps3 and will be Huge its aps3 exclusive.

    not a surprise it was just a matter of time.quality products always hit the top its common sense.it was just that xbox overtook the american market (it is an american product after all) but crappy as mcdonalds.it was cheaper and thus easier to get but the good days are long gone.markets like europe and asia trust the ps3 much more and so starts to do the american market.unless we see an xbox build like a tank and more games like alan wake(and no more brainless shotters like halo)for xclusives i will turn to ps3 for home entertainment. damn what can compete with gow3 uncharted infamous and games like these which will certainly continue to come out?Halo 4?come on were not everyone 14 year old..But games like alan wake surely are a good try to keep me at the box.

    Ken you are soo right! And yes Johopper I do realise agent is gonna be amazing (just like a lot of ps3 games!) but with the likes of Halo reach, Fable 3 and a lot more the Xbox has undoubtably the better line up (although I cant wait for gran turismo) Halo reach beta confirmed that Reach is gonna be out of this world! I love all computer games consoles but all things considered Xbox (and without sounding like a rabbid 12 year old fanboi) RULES!

    But yeah this site loves bagging on the Xbox

    Considering there is only a 4m gap in sales, if this prediction comes true, then the sales to date (despite Microsoft's 16month headstart/botched launch) has been totally eliminated.

    Of course when I say the number are Equal, we know that's not true, as many of those Xbox count are dead and disposed of. In all likelihood the userbases are already pretty much equal.

    PS3 has been outselling the Xbox for several years now. I suggest to stop reading US based blogs like Joystiq and Kotaku that only report US news and US sales figures.

    The gap has closed to 4m consoles, and by the end of the year, Microsoft's 16month exclusive headstart will have totally evaporated.

    well, you also have to think of the consoles themselves. The PS3 is more expensive due to the extra features, and of course its blu ray player, and its a system with better all-round capability in terms of Graphics. Don't forget the "Failure" rate on the consoles, PS3's is at about 5-10%, XBOX is at 35% or something.

    Harp on all you want about blu ray, but theres only a few games that actually utilize the space of blu ray discs! The rest just have all that leftover space doing nothing. Blue ray discs spin slower, therefore, there is a lot longer loading times! (and we all know the ps3 loads far too much and for a Lot longer) And blu ray movies? I download movies from Zune, which is streamed (or downloaded) in 1080! so dont start preaching! In terms of graphics Xbox overall wins! (I first noticed when i bought armoured core 4 answer on my ps3 then got it for my Xbox to play with my mate and could not beleive the difference) Before that I was buying what sony was telling me!

    I will give you a comparison= ps3 is like ninja from metal gear solid, all technologically advanced and crap! Xbox 360 is like snake, battle hardened bruised but with an iron will! (and quite weirdly I liken foxdie to Xbox's rrod) On paper ninja wins but in practise well….. Anyway we all just love playing games! I hope neither PS3 or Xbox stops cos I love gaming!!!!!

    I have had my ps3 for many years play a ton of games watch a ton of moves and it is super reliable. no RROD……. 4 me so far 80g last model to play ps2 games without mods

    Read some juicy gossip that Rockstar San Diego are working on a new project. Apparenty they’re doing work on a number of new titles. “…the studio is doing work on exciting new projects”. All of Rockstar appear to to busy with one thing or another: “Rockstar New England is uniquely positioned to contribute to several of Rockstar’s next generation titles in development as we ramp up toward a incredibly exciting upcoming line-up”. Yay bring it on !
