Tylenol Inquiry Expands: The FDA Probe Deeper Following 2010 Recall

By Jamie Pert - May 18, 2010

Earlier this month we revealed that a Tylenol recall was taking place in 12 countries, we are now hearing that the FDA are now probing deeper following the recall of 40 over-the-counter and prescription drugs.

From what we can see the FDA are expanding the inquiry to clarify information regarding contamination of medications, previously Burkholderia cepacia has been found in Children’s Tylenol, this bacteria is resistant to common antibiotics and could perhaps cause chronic lung diseases.

This is the third recall of Tylenol in a year, therefore Ed Towns and Darrell Issa (members of the U.S. House of Representatives) are very concerned about the medications, especially the pediatric ones, their aim is to bring the relevant information to the public. Also they will be “asking tough questions about the conditions of the manufacturing plant and controls put in place”.

As we hear of major progressions in the investigations we will keep you posted, for more details check out the source link below, also worth a read is Tylenol’s official information regarding the recall.
